Are fan expectations from offensive coordinator Greg Davis too low?

I was concerned after year one of the Davis era because Vandy seemed to regress under his tutelage, even tho he was a senior. But, I have to give Greg his due for Jake's development last year. Jake was a raw rookie and he surprised most of the experts with his solid play ...especially before his knee injuries.

So, I think job one of Davis is developing the QBs and he seems to be able to handle that pretty well.
I agree that the spring game showed how much they want open up the passing game to stretch the field.
I think we saw progress in that dept.

To me, GD gets a passing grade for year 2 after a very shaky year 1. Now, in year 3, we need to score more points and pass the ball better....and I think it can happen.

Its' an interesting question... I think the offense should grow for 3 major reasons plus more.

1. Davis's 3rd year with team (should mean a better feel for game calling and how to use the kids he has)
2. His 2nd year with same QB (The two of them should be in lock step and know what they expect play in and play out)
3. WRs that can make plays ( Rudock should have alot more options in the playbook and just with the threat of big plays will open up the running game.)

Imagine if with the same amount of plays and percentage of running to passing I think it was like 55-45 last yr. That the passing game gains more then say 3-5 yards per play average. That could mean alot more 3rd down conversions, TDs instead of FGs etc etc. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect a significant jump in the overall offense this year but it won't be just because of Davis being in his 3rd year. But the combination of everything. Running game Oline TEs and execution.

I try not to have expectations for the offense...it's better that way, as my spirit won't get crushed from medium hopes

I just came to realize that I feel the same way.

On a slightly different note, isn't the Offensive coordinator the Bane of nearly every college fan base?

OSU ,FSU, IU and Auburn probably loved their o-coordinator last year....but no one else.

Stretch the field just a Little more = safeties a bit farther back = fewer defenders in the box = more effective run game = more successful play action = room for underneath routes = more 1st downs = more time of possession = winning field position = more scoring chances = more points

It's all connected and is all helped by even an Incremental improvement in stretching the field.

I am truley fighting the urge to let my expectations get higher. I like what I am seeing and hearing from a offensive talent perspective.

Go Hawks.

The QB needs to have the arm to do that. Not sure we know that for certain, yet. But you are right on.
