Archie?

Is he hurt? Or did Fran just not decide to play him last night?

Cole got extended minutes last night and rightfully so. He was a beast last night on the boards, and even put up double digit points. He played by far his best game of the year! If Cole continues to play like this, and can get 7 - 10 rebounds a game in Big10 play, Archie's min. will be limited....

I like the way Fran phrased it: "But he’s a guy that takes care of his body. He’s been living in the training room. Now what you see is a guy that’s getting rebounds above the rim and he’s active. What he did tonight I thought was he made really good decisions. It wasn’t like he only got a bunch of rebounds. He knew when to kick it back out and when to go back up with it."

We can all be thankful that Mr. O'Rear's rear didn't put a big fat end to Jarryd's night, if not several games. No excuse for submarining a player in the air; that's thuggish play intended to intimidate and potentially hurt an opponent. It happened at least twice as I recall; it should have been called by the stripes.

Agreed. It happened several times. I thought the refs were pretty crappy.

Brommer and Basabe also played well last night. There are only so many min for bigs on this team, and when the big two (Cole and Basabe) play well, and on top Brommer plays well there won't be a whole lot of time left.

They all played well, you are correct. If we can keep getting that type of play from the Cole, Basabe, and Brommer that would be a very good sign. I felt that when Cole, and Brommer were on the court at the same time, they played well together. That would be nice to just keep a 3 man rotation for the PF and C position.

Cole, Brommer, and Basabe were doing well. There really wasn't a need. Cole was a monster on the boards, something Archie brings. Brommer actually played pretty well last night too. Basabe continues to get better every time out.

It looks like Brommer has beat out Archie for the third big man. Archie may still be needed especially since most games one of our big men will get two fouls in the first half and Brommer has been inconsistent.

I do agree with Spank...Brommer made a lot of positive plays last night. There is potential if he can play controlled. That was a great baby hook last night. Brommer will actually be much better in a controlled tempo game.

I also remember Fran saying a game or two ago that Archie has been fighting a leg issue so I'm sure that factors in as well.

He'll play if Fran thinks he gives him the best option to win. No need to get discouraged, just become better than than the guys he's practicing against, and he'll see more floor time.

Brommer had a really nice pass late in the game to May for the easy layup. I hope he continues to grow as a player the more he plays. Like most think he is a Junior but plays like a Freshman due to lack of coaching and experience.

I liked that soft hook.
I had my buddy over for the game last night (first time I watched an Iowa game with someone other than my 2 yr old) and as soon as the pass went into the lane, I said, "here comes the hook". He nailed it. It's his best move, as long as he can find a way to get to it.

I, too, like that little baby hook of his.

That baby hook and pass to May were things of beauty....if only he would stop guarding guys on the perimeter so tight and getting those dumb blocking fouls because of it.

What happened on Brommer's pass to May? I swear it looked like he flipped it over his shoulder, but they never showed a replay.
