Steve Alford to ESPN: I am Absolutely 100 percent not going to Indiana. Staying at UCLA. I am happy. Love it here. Have a great class coming in, and brand-new practice facility. Obviously, I love my alma mater. Committed to UCLA. I am not going to talk to Indiana. I am staying a Bruin."

Good. Didn't want him anywhere near Carver, even if we would get to boo him. After reading some old articles about the Pierce situation linked in a recent article about it, I had forgotten just how much of an ass he really was during the whole situation.

I wanted him to get the Indiana job, it wasn't going to make FM's job harder. I don't think he is that great of a coach. Not just him coming to Carver, but he would bring so much unintentional entertainment to the B1G.

I respect him more than I did before, for deciding to stay committed to where he is now for once. That is, unless he pulls a Saban and it turns out his "100%" guarantee really isn't so much that. Maybe Indiana makes him an offer he can't refuse.

One also has to wonder about the Knight affect here. Maybe Stevie carries a little of Bobby's resentment baggage, him saying he'd never go back to Bloomington.

BTW, I work with a guy from Lubbock who's knows a regular lunch buddy of Knight's. He said Knight is beginning to slip mentally. Had a former player come up and say Hello, thanking him and asking him how he was doing. After he left the table, Knight asked "Who was that...did he play for me?". Apparently age is taking its toll.

alford has more talent on his current roster than most, if not all, NCAA tournament teams and they are ALL from California.. He had 6 players that AVERAGED double digit points and he still couldn't finish better than 3rd in conference nor get past the Sweet 16. Hell, Tom Crean has a Final 4 appearance

What exactly does he bring to the table for Indiana? He has four sweet 16 appearances but nothing past that. Its not a secret that alford would have been fired at Iowa had he not bailed for the New Mexico gig. One year ago he wrote an open letter to UCLA about how shitty that year was and how he was giving back his extension.....

Dude is a mediocre coach at best that seems to have 9-lives as a coach.

I was hoping beyond hope that he would go to Indiana and put that program in the shitter just as he did to Iowa but alas my dream will not come to fruition.

I believe Alford said something similar after a contract extension at New Mexico and then a couple days later took off. Not saying he is leaving just saying I don't put to much in his word.
