Apathy is a dangerous thing

Most everyone believed this season would be a struggle. The problem is that we all believed the defense would be the reason the team struggled and that the offense would give us a ray of hope. The offense has been horrendous, and I don't see how it gets exponentially better next year (the improvement needs to be that drastic for Iowa to compete), particularly with a new QB.

The apathy is pretty appalling. I don't think that anyone realizes how bad its going to be if the Hawks lose to UNI.

Do you or anyone else understand the definition of apathy?

Apathy is NOT another almost total sell-out of 70,000 plus people in Kinnick.

Apathy is NOT this website and another handful of others that are visited by 10,000's plus fans every day.

Apathy is not all the I Club groups spread across the nation. (and the world)

If for some .0001 percent chance UNI beats Iowa this weekend it won't be apathy but it will be some huge combination of anger, fear, hopelessness, grief and depression.

Please tell me what I missed? NOT APATHY.

Don't you know everything comes back around? Nothing really new under the sun? yadda yadda yadda.

In the meantime is that all you got for a come back?

If it is, it doesn't matter if you go away or not... ignorance is always a choice, along with you'll just be ignored

Aaron, if you are of the opinion that Iowa is doing just fine then apathy has set in for you. Ignorance is bliss.

Actually, if you think Iowa is doing just fine, you're an optimist. Apathy means you don't give a rats behind anymore. The flurry of activity on the message boards indicate that it is not apathy we are looking at, but instead frustration. Frustration is a good thing, it indicates people still care. If you would like to see apathy search the basketball forums from 2008-2010 until the rumor that Lick was leaving. The cobwebs in there at the time indicated apathy. So you're argument is invalid.

aaron has bigger problems than apathy, Doc. Dude has serious anger management issues that need professional attention.

It is depressing. But, I didn't expect us to be real good this year. (not quite this bad though) And I think we'll get back to greatness in a couple seasons.
I know that's not what you want to hear. Everybody wants top notch programs year after year. Is that possible? Yes. But it's not very realistic.
Don't jump off the cliff. It's gonna be a tough year. Better days are ahead.

I agree with this...once Ferentz is gone. He just refuses to adapt our offense, and when you score one TD against mediocre defenses like NIU and ISU it's painfully apparent.

All I want to see from Ferentz is an attempt to open up the offense and to show some emotion on the sideline. I can get behind a coach that does those things even if he's losing.

+1. The football program as a whole is not at that level yet - not even close. Although I think there are some fans out there who are approaching that point - myself included. It's not full-out apathy for me like it was with the hoops program under Lick because I had totally given up on Iowa Hoops for a while there, but I'm starting to find my emotional involvement in the football games & the results of those games starting to slip.

One thing I can say for sure is that I've lost all confidence in the program and any faith whatsoever that we're ever going to see anything like 2002-04 again, and I question whether we'll even have a smaller blip like 2009 and the last part of 2008 before KF retires, goes to the NFL, etc. The result is that I'm starting to EXPECT 7-5 type seasons, and that is killing my excitement for Iowa Football. The program needs a shot in the arm.

I think 2015 sets up real nicely!

Apathy is when you don't care. I think there are very few Hawkeye fans that don't care. Some people come at this with a very different viewpoint and different expectations.

I thought the point is apathy by the head coach. I think ferentz cares, but there is just some things he cares more about.

So all you want is JVB slinging the ball downfield every play and KF playing air guitar on the sideline?

I want a head coach who does more than chew gum and cry. I want an offensive approach that isn't from the 1970s NFL.
I want to be excited by what I see on the field when the Hawkeyes have the ball.

When do the next couple of Ferentz boys become elgible to coach? If we get a few more of them on staff we should be good.

Many here can't afford appathy. Iowa football is the source of joy and entertainment as well as idenity. Absent these constituent elements many fear that they'll become the hole in the donught. My dad asked me once when I was a kid. "What is the matter with you son? Ignorance or Apathy? I said, Dad...I don't know....and I don't care.
