AP poll is weird; Bama is better than Iowa and would clobber Okla 8 out of 10

I really thought Bama would drop to #2 after playing a very talented team at a harsh away site, Georgia on top, and Iowa would stay at 3rd. But you saw what they did or tried to do. They moved the undefeateds ahead of Bama, Oh wait they left Michigan clear down at 8 even after beating a Nebby team that is getting better and clobbering Wisky at Wisky the week before. This doesnt add up to me.

And unless the AP voters heard clifford is out I wouldnt drop them very far at all after a very close loss to Iowa at the place where top 5 teams go to lose.

The eye test is that bama is better on both sides of the ball than we/Iowa is. Maybe Iowa's special teams adds strength to their team more than bama.

As if Purdue needed more emphasis to fight like hell against the hawks now the number on the target is a higher ranking.

Agree on the Oklahoma sentiment, I said as much in another thread. Bama beats Oklahoma by five touchdowns. Bama should be at 4 or Oklahoma and Bama should be lower. Oklahoma is not a good team and the Little Ten (Eight) are not a power 5 conference.

I had not seen Bama yet this year but I watched a lot of their 2nd half yesterday. TA&M has a lot of really great athletes and 100K+ at the stadium makes it tough. I didnt see the first half and I do not know much about Bama's QB but maybe he was a little bit deer in the headlights early on in that game.

College sports polls are very, very strange.

They show a very close correlation with who the best teams are, but operate by a very strange set of unwritten rules which creates some real weirdness.

Georgia is the only team I think would roll us. Bama doesn’t have the D this year.

I am not saying that bama is head and shoulders better than us. Their defense has been giving up points and their offense looked mistake prone. I just think they have better athletes overall and they would make a few more to 6-10 more big plays than the hawks. If Iowa's defense is playing sound positions and angles and tackling well I do not think the hawks are getting taken to the woodshed by anyone

Man for man Alabama is way better than Iowa, but Iowa has a lot more experience as a unit. If they came to Kinnick in late November Iowa could absolutely beat them, but on a neutral field in good weather I think Bama would destroy Iowa. Bama loses so many guys to the draft every year it takes several weeks for Nick to get the team steered in the right direction and frankly, a lot of the SEC defenses are utter trash but they have two freak linemen who wreak absolute havoc. Guys like Phil Parker and Jim Leonhard run the best defenses but we just ain't got the horses up north.

I heard some interesting discussion today about whether NIL has made it tougher for Saban to form team cohesion and get some of the more well paid guys to buy in.

Respectfully disagree. I'm tired of hearing...because Clifford was out. If PSU would have blocked better, Campbell wouldn't have leveled him. It's like me saying, if Moss hadn't got hurt we'd have 2 more interceptions.

And Bama is better on both sides of the ball? Possibly, but they have not played us. Every game in every situation is different. Prejudging is useless until we meet them.
Go Hawks!

I think a lot of teams are gonna have problems. We've seen it already. Bosa got dinged and pulled the plug for the year. Guys skipping bowl games. That Thibodeaux dude from Oregon looks like he's in knee protection mode. It might actually be a liability having some of these big name dudes who are already locks for first round status because once there is a bump in the road they're just gonna say "F it" and shut it down because there's no upside to them personally. Might basically have to plan on getting two years out of stars instead of three and it could wind up like basketball where you get too many egos and your team is totally stacked on paper but completely wilts on the big stage. That might actually be a good development for football.

Can I just take a moment to comment on how much our blitz packages have improved? Our LB blitzes used to be so telegraphed and were completely ineffective, but now they are insane.

first off A and M scored 10 points and should have lost to one of the worst teams in america so hate to tell u but they do suck.

I used to cringe when we'd show blitz. So obvious. It would always get picked up, it seemed.

Air Raid is an offense that invites brutal hits on the QB. There is a reason the NFL has never adapted it. I get why mid tier power 5 teams adapt it. You don’t have to recruit 4 star linemen because the ball is gone fast. But I don’t get PSU or USC adapting it. It’s not like either school has problems attracting talent. But without more than the 5 linemen ever around to block, it’s a matter of time before the QB gets drilled.
