about what kind of football coach Barta would hire if/when Ferentz decides to do something else after seeing our basketball program fall to where it has under Barta?? I for one hope Barta is long gone if this day ever comes.

Why worry about something before it happens? Having said that, I would worry about this hire REGARDLESS the AD.
 
I like how Barta makes one bad hire...that most seemed to like at the time, I might add...and he's suddenly the worst AD in the history of worst ADs...yet Pollard can hire 2 coaches per sport and Clone fans still buy his snake oil and drink it down bottle after bottle...
 
There are just too many questions in doubt to worry about this...

The football program is in great shape currently so it would be a much more attractive position for a head coach compared to the basketball program.

What if Ferentz won a National Championship this year or won a couple more BCS bowls and got an offer from an NFL team he couldn't refuse? The football program would position would become an even more attractive position.

What if Barta fires Lick and makes a great hire for the basketball program who can turn it around? I think some may start to view Barta differently.

These are just a few scenarios... I'll stop here so hopefully my point is proven.
 
Barta may sign the paycheck for the new coach, but whoever it is will be handpicked by Ferentz, so there would be nothing to worry about...
 
If Barta hires the previous year's National Coach of the year that took his team to a BCS Bowl, I doubt many would have an issue with it.
 
The sweet 16 in BB is not the BCS in Football but I will play.

We would be getting the coach from Boise St or TCU?

If either of those two wanted a BCS job, all they would have to do is name the price. I believe they both signed long-term extensions not too long ago.

YEP. Anyway you slice it, it would be tough. I'd say with the tradition that has been around for decades, it wouldn't be hard to get someone really good. Kirk has found a way to make coming to Iowa attractive for both players and coaches. I'm not sure though, if you could ever really get back to where Kirk has taken us. Then again, I thought that about Fry too.
 
Barta isn't nearly as bad as people are making him out to be.

Also the Iowa Football job and the Iowa Basketball job are two totally different animals.

The Iowa football job is a (at least) a top 20 job in the country the Iowa Basketball job not so much.
 
My personal choice at this point would be one of the Stoops. Doesn't have to be Bob cause Mike is doing a very good job at Arizona, and Mark seems to be taking the steps to becoming a head coach (D-Coordinator at 'Zona to DC at Florida State). I would be very excited if we brought in one of them. But that's a ways off, so best not to worry about it for now.
