Anyone else notice the attitude of the team mirrors the tude of the boards?

In the last several weeks I noticed probably a dozen threads and perhaps a 100 posts saying effectively that this season is over, we have nothing to play for, this season is a failure. Funny how the teams attitude seemed to mirror that of the boards. I'm not saying it's causal but it's an interesting correlation.

Ive noticed. You got people who seem to enjoy posting that they feel an upset coming every game or they feel bad about the upcoming game. I would not be surprised if some of the players have been on this board and others before. See so many negative fans has to have some what of an effect.

A lot of us have thousands of dollars invested into the program. Of course I'm going to be upset when the team and coaches quit before the season ends.

I have no problem with a team going 7-5 if they are giving a full effort. You win some / you lose some. That's part of the game.

But quitting before the bowl game ends isn't acceptable.

Well, I guess when the team is losing every week in heart-breaking fashion, everyone around the program (players, coaches, fans) are all going to be in a bad mood. Not sure what else you would expect..

For anyone to suggest that the fans are to blame for this season's failure, or especially that the fans are why the team didn't play with a heartbeat yesterday is beyond ridiculous. You heard it time and time again with the basketball program, people trying to blame the fans' negativity for this or that. Nonsense.

I'm not saying the negativity is good, but the team needs to pass a serious gut-check if they don't like what's being said on the boards. Come out and prove us all wrong if you don't like what's being said rather than sulking and laying down in front of a 1-win team.

I'm not asking anyone to like it, but I make no apologies for being critical of the team's play the past several weeks.

Well for basketball, the lack of attendance had to be pretty disheartening. But the negative chatter on the message boards is irrelevant.

No argument there - an arena more than half-empty doesn't exactly scream "fan support". The football team didn't have that problem this year, though. The fans are coming out for the games and some travel to the road games, and the bowl game support is outstanding. I guess we'll see how it goes this year, but I still expect us to travel well.

I actually think it has something to do with it. These players are human, and they are young guys. Not so much the internet message boards, but the attitude by the fanbase in general, which surrounds the players on campus, in Iowa City, fans making derogatory posts on their Facebook pages, etc. A great crowd at a home game lifts the spirits of the home team and can sometimes help carry them to victory. I wouldn't say the opposite is impossible.

I've often thought that the infamous Bartman game outcome was partially due to the complete change in attitude by the crowd at the game. Moises Alou had a little b1tchfest after he was unable to catch the ball. Then the whole place went into a huge negative vibe, and all hell broke lose.

We're human. Attitudes do impact us.

The key there is that Alou got negative first.

The crowd was still VERY good for the Wisky game, and the OSU game. They had support in the stadium. Honestly, the Wisky game was the loudest I've been to (start to finish), and the 4th and 10 against OSU was the loudest I'd heard it on an individual play.

I agree. The crowd and team effort for both of those games was outstanding. However, this is ironically part of the problem.

This team, and its fans, do not get "up" for Minny, NW, Indiana, Purdue, etc.

However, we'd better start. If Iowa beats Minny, NW, ISU, Purdue, and their non-conference opponents, they're on their way to a good year.

Minny and NW are now in OUR division. We need to stop focusing so damn much on tOSU and focus on our neighbors (like NW, who won 9 games last year and won seven this year with their QB out the last two games. :(

I agree that the crowd was excellent for Wisky and very good for OSU. Iowa played well in both those games and just got beat. The Minnesota game was the only game where the team fell apart.

I disagree as I mentioned in another thread yesterday. I still had a will for them to win yesterday. But according to Mr. Clayborn, the team apparently lost their will to win somewhere down the line. So apparently I am not on the same page as the team. I may be now!!!

2 out of 15 on 3rd down for Iowa when they played NW.

Fell apart there, too, IMHO.

Sometimes the obvious is obvious to everyone.
