Anybody think Eric May could make one heckuva wide receiver?

Seems like he could have more pro potential in football. Pretty good build, and athletic as they get. Did he play football in high school? Anyone?

Pretty sure he had some D1 offers. But I think most of the schools projected him as a CB or Safety. He played QB in HS and I believe safety when he played defense...I don't see him as a WR but I could see him as on heck of a Safety.

Yes, Eric played FB. He reminds me of Brandon Myers, though Brandon was probably bigger in HS than was/is Eric. Athletically they're similar, at least from a BB stand point. Eric may be a little more explosive of a jumper. I think of WR as being a little leaner than is Eric.

This. He covers well, is fast, can leap, doesn't mind mixing it up. He could be a heckuva player in Norm's defense.

I think May can improve and become a good ball player for us, but right now is a good athlete playing basketball not a good basketball player who is also athletic. I hope he improves over the next couple of years.

I think he has outgrown safety. Would have to Doyle him into a TE or D end/LB. But I remember when he decided on playing hoops in college he said he wouldn't miss football practice. So that makes me think he would 't be willing to put in the work to be successful in D1 football. College basketball is full of guys that have the athletic ability to go pro in football, but not the work ethic.

He may have been the second coming of Dallas Clark
as a TE. There was a chance for him to play in
the NFL, while there is zero chance fo him to
be in the NBA.

Yep. But you can't make a kid want it. While I couldn't imagine not playing pro football if there could be a chance, there are plenty of other people who can't imagine the grind of the NFL. I know someone who was a basketball player that ended up transferring to football and got drafted by Al Davis. He played a few years, but took an injury settlement as soon as be could, because he never liked it. I mean you would ask him about football and all he ever really talked about was how much he hated training camp.

I know when Haluska was leaving ISU there were schools contacting him about playing TE at their school. He would have been an unreal TE. He would have been ridiculously athletic for his size at that position

Uh, I think nearly everyone can say they don't miss football practice. Doesn't mean, given the chance, I wouldn't work my butt off in one at the D1 level. Maybe he just liked bball better? I would say, yes, some kids that are in college basketball could play pro football, but that is only some (wouldn't you see it happen a lot more if it were full of them?). I would think that they were just better in basketball than they were in football. Work ethic doesn't really come into play, IMO (some exceptions to that, I know).

yes, and I thought Adam Haluska would have as well. Adam was fast.

One of the fastest Iowans ever. I believe he still holds the overall state record in the 200. I think he would have been an awesome wide receiver. However I worked with a guy from Carrol and he said he didn't have very good hands played football, but never really stood out.

Yes, I think there are a bunch of guys playing college basketball that have no shot of playing in the NBA that could play pro-football. And no, I don't think it would happen a lot more. Why? Because you have to work your *** off to even get on the field as a D-1 football player. Overall it is just light years harder than BBall. Why do you think we have so many guys not pan out in football? It isn't just injuries. Guys get here and realize really fast that they have no desire to work as hard as they will have to work to take the field at Kinnick. Just think about it, you can play four games in four days in Basketball.

And yes, I do think guys might just like basketball better. But we are talking about the chance to be a professional athlete. If guys like May choose basketball over football in college, they are saying Inwould rather do what I enjoy than have a shot at a pro career.
