Anybody notice when we blitzed...

Yes excellent post. Our defense gave up a ton of passing yards but we won the game because of our defense. If Hyde doesn't return that pick for a touchdown does our offense score a touchdown to win it? We hadn't scored a touchdown since 13:26 left in the 2nd quarter.

Care to analyze our offensive schemes?

Cincy, well thought out post. It feels and appears that too often we're forcing larger/slower LB's to cover WR's. We also need to rotate more players to the DL with our scheme as they were tired last night and just about every game but MSU.

Our DL was tired this year because late in games our offense couldn't sustain drives long enough to give them the rest they need. We forced slower LBs to cover because of injuries. Think Nielsen and a healthy Hunter would have gotten beat (I don't think so) and Tarp healthy is one of the best cover LBs we have had in a while. Cincy good explanation on the Spread, I said a similar statement when talking about Stanzi's prospects for the NFL coming from a pro-style and not a spread but others didn't think that a spread/shotgun made it easier on the QB. Iowa likes the KISS method and execution. This boring system has worked longer than others and that is why it still works and will continue to work.

We were also usually in a nickel or dime. The one play we got burned on was a bad timed play. Too often we have blitzed we just blitz at an open defender. Last night we had good edge blitzes were the Tackle was usually already occupied. If Norm doesn't think we have the DB talent to Blitz he never will. We have a ton of talent in the secondary. We just have to do this stuff more often!
