Anybody feel like it's Officially Over for Iowa football?

Yeah, we all cuss and get upset over losses,
but there has always been that 'next week' or 'next season' optimism/excitement.

But not now. It's weird.

Of course I'll still cheer, and hats off to a great 2nd half,
but it just seems to be REALITY now...
Iowa is not good, and won't be for some time.

I have new found optimism and excitement. Hawks play like this next week and in the Bowl. It will be a lot of fun. Havn't felt like this all year.

Great effort and good performance against a really good football team.

Definitely not over. This season is a complete dud and Iowa's current roster doesn't call for a lot of excitement in the future but you would probably say the same thing in 2007 and early 2008 but that roster turned out to produce a lot of good players.

I think Iowa will continue to be what they've been more most of the last 10 years. A mid level B1G team that wins 4-5 conference games a year and goes to mid-tier bowl games.

The positive here is that Iowa plays in one of, it not the weakest division in the Power 5 so if they can ever get a coach in that can recruit & coach well, they could have some more success.

Tell me, NC, when is the last time you could seriously count on this happening?

#do not scratch that itch.

This was an exciting game by the hawks and they just came up short.

This is the kind of game that makes you think why dont we win a few of these other games. We play like this against ISU and Maryland and we win those games and we would be sitting at 9-2 and 5-2. We would be behind the 8 ball on the tie breakers but still have the kind of record we wanted.

Who was the really good football team they were playing against today...were they playing Ohio St.? Wisconsin is a pretty one dimensional, decent football team. But to call them a really good team is a bit of a stretch. This program is circling the drain and after CJB and others head for the exits on January 2nd we are in for an interesting (and horrible) season next year.

So 4-5 conference wins a year is ok with you.
Man... I wish I could say that.
If that's true, the culture has definitely changed.

If you're referring to me, at no point in this thread or any other did I say that win total was ok with me. It just reality. Iowa has won more than 5 conference games in just 1 season in the last 10. Nothing new to see here. Iowa is a mid-level team in a subpar conference. Has been for a long time.

We are officially in the good effort stage of a program. Losing is accepted as long as it's close it appears.

Our conference is weak and we will most likely contend for the West every year in the foreseeable future so no I don't think it is as bad as you think. That being said we need a running back, and for the love of GOD someone to return kicks and punts.

I haven't had time to look at other schedules yet but I have a feeling the playoff dream died today.

What are you talking about? Why are we most likely going to contend for the West every year? Wisconsin is better than us, Minnesota is better than us, Nebraska is about equal to us, and NW & Indiana are competitive with us. As long as KF is at Iowa, we will NEVER win the Big Ten West division. He can't beat teams that are slightly better/equal in terms of talent and he always loses at least a game or two to inferior opponents. College football has passed captain conservative by.

What do you mean by over? If you are the kind of person who doesn't care that your team is so bad that it never even sniffs the top 25 and gets beat by Iowa State more then they win, then everything is ok. If you have a problem with that Iowa football has been over for a long time.

Those people crazy enough to think that it still existed after the Northwestern win will still be crazy. I'm sure some still believe. :)

The one thing I found encouraging was how the team played. They didn't fold and quit on Kf as I feared they might. Wiscy is a very solid team that was beating LSU untill their idiot OC forgot to keep feeding MG the ball. Rudock finally played the way I hoped he would in the second half. The thing I feel that lost the game for us was how the game was called in the first half. If Davis had started with this we may have won. The defense played their heart out. We need to beat Nebby next week.
