Anthony Hitchens stepping up at LB for resurgent

Dallas Cowboys. How about them Cowboys??

No one and I mean NO ONE was picking the Cowboys to have
success in 2014. Yet, last Sunday they go into Seattle and pummel the
Super Bowl champ, Seahawks.

When Rolando McClain intercepted R Wilson to seal the win, Anthony Hitchens, the
Cowboys other Linebacker was there, in the middle of field to congratulate him.

Hitchens is just another HAWKEYE to NFL Success story, under Captain Kirk.

GO HAWKS

I was just talking to an Illini buddy about Hitchens - Illinois is obviously going to fire Beckman after this year and the Illini fans are having insane delusions about who they can hire, not to mention they want some flash guy who can reel in 4 star recruits like Zook could. I told him that if I were the AD there I would hire Phil Parker either as HC or offer him a small fortune to join as D-coordinator and this moronic Illini fan told me I was smoking crack. I then pulled up the Rivals recruiting page and went to 2010 to see this year's redshirt seniors and the guys who graduated last year who came from Phil's territories in Michigan and Ohio back when he was DB coach. It was sick. Anthony Hitchens, Carl Davis, KMM, Donnal and BJ Lowery. I noted that Hitchens was a two star RB who is now a decent NFL LB in his rookie year and pointed out that Illinois needs to find a guy like Parker who can spot and develop ball players. I also pointed out the numerous NFL DBs Phil put into the League when he was DB coach (pretty much all unheralded recruits).

The Illini fan mumbled something about Lane Kiffin and left my office to continue his mail run. After O'Keefe broke the long drought of Iowa assistants getting hired away when he took the job with the Dolphins, I've gotta admit that I'm really worried about keeping Parker around. He probably doesn't have enough sizzle to get fan bases excited, but he is head and shoulders the best assistant on the Iowa staff and I'd honestly take him over Narduzzi from MSU because I think MSU has just lucked into an unprecedented talent run due to the gross mismanagement of the program in Ann Arbor. Phil Parker is out there chipping away every year finding guys and fielding very stellar defenses with below the radar recruits. That is precisely what a program like Illinois needs right now.

Lane Kiffin??? That guy couldnt win at USC! Why would the Illini faithful believe he would be a great hire for them?......dont answer that. I already know how stupid they are.

It goes beyond stupid. They think he would help recruiting (ignoring the fact that they would be on probation for 4 years after a killer 7-5 season).

"The Illini fan mumbled something about Lane Kiffin and left my office to continue his mail run."

Brilliant.

When did Phil play at MSU? Wasn't he an All-American there?

Early 80's, I think. All Big Ten........not sure about the
All American status.

Just think of all the IOWA defensive backs, under Phil Parker, that have played on
Sunday. Bob Sanders, Bradley Fletcher, Charles Godfrey, Shaun Prater, Derek Pagel,
Sash, etc, etc.

We will know when you have made it when you no longer have time on the train to write these types of post up because you made enough to afford a car.

Weird, I honestly don't remember him as a player. Then again, I still have the occasional nightmare (from that era) featuring Lorenzo White and the failed 2-point attempt by Long in 1984...

To get back to the thread title Hitchens is looking good and Kirksey is doing well at Cleveland. Seems like these guys received a lot of outside criticism when they played at Iowa. Glad to see they've continued to excel.
