My two cents:
The dude is clearly ignorant. He says 12 teams (including Wisconsin) are better than us, he says we don't have enough muscle to get back to a BCS game, and he says we don't have any realistic Heisman hopefuls. Plain ignorant... has he never heard of Ricky Stanzi, Adrian Clayborn, DJK, Marvin McNutt, Ryan Donahue, or Tyler Sash???

Clearly he has heard of them since he writes their names in that article.

Dude take it for what its worth. It's NBC...all they do is promote a liberal political agenda. Sports reporting is well in the distance.

What!?!?! Donahue not getting a mention as a Heisman hopeful!?!? Im sending the writer an email right now to correct this error!

I think it's completely reasonable to put 12 teams above Iowa. Wisconsin may very well finish above Iowa but i don't think you can put them ahead of them in the current rankings. Just my 2 cents.

Oregon @ 5, Miami @ 6. Give me a break.

Yeah, I just can't figure out what he criteria is.

He jumps Miami from finishing 19th last year (losing to Wisc in their bowl) all the way to 6th with no apparent reasoning. Oregon gets beat up by OSU in their bowl, but they are 5th...

yet the put on ND on TV, a relgious school, religous = right wing so they must actually promote the irrigant pumpus far right wingers.

+1
I'm sure Miami gets consideration because they are Miami. They have talent, but lack consistancy IMO. Oregon is even more far-fetched. Wasn't their returning QB (Masoli) kicked off the team? But oh, yes they should be NO. 5. PISHHHHH! Please.

I don't understand why some Iowa fans feel the need to complain about any article that doesn't predict Iowa to the National Championship. It seems like some people just love playing the "no respect" card and look for anything to whine about, no matter how positive an article is. No one should feel slighted just because this guy doesn't see us in the BCS.

This is a preseason prediction written by a writer that has Iowa as the #13 team in the country. That's fine. That is his OPINION. We were #22 preseason last year and went to a BCS game after falling out of the rankings.

As far as the article, I would hardly call it ignorant. He's clearly aware of DJK's potential record breaking season and points out that Iowa always seems to have a solid OL unit regardless of returning starters. On top of that, he gives a lot of credit (rightfully so) to our defense, saying we have one of the top D-lines in the country and our secondary can be even better.

And as of right now, we do not have any Heisman contenders. That's not to say that Stanzi can't get into the Heisman talk if he has an unbelievable season, but based on his stats last season on an 11 win team, he is not a Heisman candidate. If he cuts down his interceptions a lot and has the senior season we all hope he can, he could be up for some awards. Clayborn is also a long shot unless he puts up Suh-like numbers, which is possible with the D-line around him. They won't be able to double him every time. DJK, McNutt, Sash and Donahue (really???) have no chance of winning or even being talked about as a Heisman contender.

I'm not saying I agree with the writer's opinion with Wisconsin, Miami and VT ranked in front of us, but that's not to say that any of those teams can't finish ahead of us in the finals rankings. I think we have a legit top 10 team, but anything can happen throughout a season and a BCS game isn't a guarantee. The game isn't played on paper.

Seems fair, although apparent he only did a cursory review of our team, probably by reading a couple other articles on ESPN and Scout.....I would certainly challenge Miami at #6, but I haven't looked at their sched.

Iowa is good enough to beat anyone on their schedule, but winning 12 straight or 11 of 12 or 10 of 12 is certainly difficult. Some days you don't get the breaks and the ball just doesn't bounce your way (think NW). Other days it does (think IU). :)

I'm not playing the no respect card, I'm just saying this guy is wrong. Period. I think we will win the national championship (we have as good a chance as anybody) and this team just has to go out there and prove me right. I've got 100 bucks riding on it and when we win the national championship, I will win $2,000. It'll pay for my trip to Arizona in January.

By the way, I was kidding (sort of) about the Donahue thing, but when McNutt catches 36+ touchdowns this year and wins the Heisman, you will owe him an apology.

HawkinGoferLand- Wow. Great article. Those guys are brilliant.

DDHawkeye - I love your optimism, but predicting McNutt break the ALL TIME Iowa receptions record in ONE SEASON is a little bold. I know you're exaggerating (I think) but to put it in perspective, Randy Moss broke the single season NFL TD record with 23. I'm hoping McNutt can get into double digits, and hopefully DJK gets into the endzone a little more this year.

I'm an optimist alright... HARD! But actually, I'm just being realistic. McNutt only needs 3 TD's per game to do it. I don't see what's so bold about that :)

Sorry, I hit enter before I was finished. What I was going to say about DJK is that he always seems to make the big play when we need it (especially on 3rd down) and that is why he's one of my favorite players on the team.

It seems like he always makes a huge 30-40 yard catch and gets tackled inside the 10 (sometimes he makes diving catches inside the 10). It happened in the Michigan game (diving on the deep post), Wisconsin (maybe not inside the 10 but close), MSU (fade route on the second to last drive), OSU game (corner on a perfect ball by Vandy which resulted in 0 points after a missed FG by Murray), and Minnesota (once last year on a slant and I think twice in the Metrodome the year before). He also had a huge game going against GT in the first half before he went down with an injury.

He isn't the redzone target that McNutt is, but I would like to see him get rewarded a little more for those big plays by getting into the endzone. I also expect him to be a huge contributor on kick return again this year.

So you are only counting McNutts TD's during the conference season? Or do you really expect him to not get any TD's during the non-conf games? ;)
