Another Pro-Typical MSU win against Iowa

Geez these guys just own us. Like OSU does in football. Freaking punk team punks us again.....and we punk overselves with whatever the heck we were trying to do in the half court. Just freaking sucks.

Only 9 straight. Thanks for giving up hawks

Yeah, we someone who wants to mix it up with dawson in the lane.

Woody should be eating these guys up at 7 ft 1 inch or whatever he is.

Jok and Uhtoff seemed to disappear or play weak in the second half.

Gesell had some errors but he was really trying and hustling, I liked when he took that spin move right into Trice.

MSU just takes White out of his game.

When they play us tight at 20 feet we need to take some 22 footers, hell they made long ones

I think you must also mention that Izzo gets the T right before the end of the first half. 2nd half, the little ticky tack fouls against MSU aren't called. Once Iowa realized they couldn't be the aggressor and get bailed out by foul calls, they stopped being the aggressor. On both ends...

the thing is they happen to be the cream of the BIG and look to stay that way a long a Izzo stays there..I am thankful we haven't playe OSU in fb for a few years.

Izzo is a great coach, his T was a stroke of genius. But lets be honest, Iowa couldn't beat Iowa Mennonite if they hit 12 of 17 from 3.

Problem with this logic is the number of those 3's that were uncontested, or weakly contested. There was very little defensive intensity in the second half on the perimeter.

What is it now, 14 out of 15? MSU has beaten us like a drum for the better part of the past two decades since Izzo has been coaching there, and since Tom Davis was shown the door.

MSU is well coached, so they don't usually beat themselves, and they always have good/great talent. So it's easy for me to see why Iowa has struggled against them so much. You are rarely going to win against a team that plays smart and is more talented.

It doesn't make me happy about it, though.

It's one game and we don't play them again. This was hardly a make or break game for the season. I have no complaints related to the officiating and think it has zero impact on which team won the game. I don't know about Iowa Mennonite but all 13 teams in the B1G will likely beat us shooting 12 of 17 from 3...assuming we are unable to score as was the case last night. Lastly, Trice hit a couple of tough ones...can think of 1 step back in particular where he was well defended. He was having one of those nights.

I'm just glad we decided to play horribly on offense on the same night our opponent was unconscious. It results in 1 loss rather than 2.

I agree.

oh-oh.

tom izzo giving love to Iowa. he did this with lichliter's teams, too.

i prefer the n.florida coach's remarks over izzo's.

Not disagreeing but the larger point is that Iowa should not get dominated for two decades by anyone in basketball.

Ever.

I didn't bother watching the game, I knew we're the doormat to Tom Izzo and his crews. We will always lose. Thats why Tom Izzo have that smirk on his face.He knows Fran is a pussified version of pink d

oormat.

You know what, there was a change in the officiating in the second half...they let both teams play. One team thrived in the more physical game and another didn't...that's the bottom line. If you don't think that is going to be the style of play that we will see all year...you haven't paid attention.

Granted Trice was the difference in this game period. He kept them from being down 15-17 in the first half by hitting a few huge threes when we were on a run. Those were killer threes. I was just ****** Fran didn't put Gesell or Sapp on him and tell them to not let him breathe and rough him up. Let me ask you, if Ogelsby or Jok got hot, do you think Izzo would allow them to get open looks the rest of the game...no, they would be roughed up and get no looks at the expense of maybe allowing Uthoff or White to beat them. Where was the pressure of sacrificing some team defense to pay attention to that little punk? Come on Fran...that's your freaking job.

All said though...there were a lot of positives in this game whether you think so or not. If the guys learn from it...and play the way they did in the first half, even with more physical defense being played....they got great shots the entire first half in the half court. There is maybe one defense as good as MSU in the league right now...Wisconsin...maybe Maryland. We are going to do well against most teams in the half court.

We just need to shoot the ball better period. Nothing crazy like 45%...but maybe 42%.

That might depend on your definition of break. Almost all of these players have beaten all but two teams in the conference at least once: MSU and Rutgers. I can't help but feel like getting a win over MSU like Thursday's would have been is the difference between this program taking the next significant step forward and staying right where we're at.

I've given a fair amount of thought about the second half of the MSU game. Obviously Izzo wants to play physical and has the bodies to compete that way. It was the typical MSU game with the referees swallowing their whistles in the second half. Iowa cannot match the bulk of MSU when they literally move players out of the lane or body them when driving. Sometimes the way to fight a fire is with a fire.

I think it is worth a try to deliberately foul MSU more in the second half. Guard the perimeter and foul the bruisers when they get the ball in the lane. Iowa had plenty of fouls to give to start the second half and at the end of the game. I say use some of them to influence the referees to counter Izzo's strategy. Maybe, just maybe, the referees will react to clean up both ends of the floor.
