Annual Heart Crushing Ritual

Is everyone ready for our annual heart crushing ritual...you know...playing Wisconsin and having your heart ripped out, cooked in front of you, and slowly sliced in bite size pieces over 60 minutes.

I hate these guys...but it's different than Nebraska...you respect Wisconsin. Wisconsin does something that Nebraska hasn't done for years...they back up the talk on the field. And Wisconsin and Iowa have the same culture...you are going to get our best shot for 60 minutes...not 45 minutes...but it's playing all out until the end.

WinOne, you remember how we owned Wisky for years, two decades. then Alvarez evened it out and went ahead as Fry struggled. Ferentz owned them until 2009 as you well know.

Well wisky does have two streaks, last 4 and maybe 8 of last nine.

They are gut wrenching losses the last 10 years because they meant division and big 10 title chances washed down the drain.

Well go hawks is all we can say

I'm ok with ending this ritual. It's just been tough the last four...as three were games we easily could have won. These guys are the only team in the Big 10 to have our number...well...ok...Penn State...but that ended this year. We are 18-4 in Trophy Games the last 22 games...and all 4 losses are to Wisonsin.

Alright, I'm going to stifle my vomit and say it: I have a lot of respect for Wisconsin as a program. They have performed at a very respectable level for a long time now (2 decades+) and, to my knowledge, have done it cleanly and respectably. Iowa has had our moments during that time and we have a lot to be proud of, but I think Wisconsin has been a decisive notch better as a program than Iowa overall.

That said, the gap between the two programs is not a big one. Yet, Wisconsin has definitely had our number...but, I'm gonna say it: they've had some breaks go their way in the series. Call it loser talk if you want, but luck plays a big role in life and football is no different. Give it enough time and luck will eventually start to balance out (good/bad) but there is no question in my mind Wisconsin has had a streak of good luck against us. Nothing says that trend has to continue today. I'm looking for a hard fought, physical, close match up today. Here's hoping a little bit of luck comes down on the Iowa side today.

By the way, from 1999-2019, Wisconsin has won about 70% of their Big Ten contests (second only to OSU's staggering 82% during this same period).

Against Iowa during this time frame, Wisconsin has "only" managed to beat Iowa about 63% of the time. Getting beat by someone nearly 2 of every 3 games isn't exactly great, but I think we'd do well to remember Wisconsin has beat up on a lot of teams much worse than they have done Iowa. Hopefully they at least see us as one of their tougher outs.

It wasn't supposed to age well...it was supposed to describe where we were before yesterday. I never hoped or wished it continued. I hate Wisconsin...but I was saying you have to respect them.
