Donnal is still learning the position. I haven't really heard anything about Donnal for the better or worse. From the look and sound of things, my impression is that he's approaching things with the right attitude. We'll just have to see if he will end up asserting himself more when we have more perceived opportunities.
As I recall, Zusevics didn't do too much early in his career and that was largely because we were pretty set at OT between Calloway and Bulaga. What I recall hearing about Zusevics is that a "light bulb" went on for him once it was more readily apparent that he could be seeing more playing time. After that happened, it seems like he really took off ... and then continued to do so.
My guess is that Donnal is currently satisfied to just learn the position and improve for now ... because right now we seem to be okay at OT. However, my guess is that if we end up seeing both Zusevics and Reiff leave after the '11 season ... then we're going to see a bunch of young guys be all the more likely to have their lightbulb go on.

Thanks Homer for some actual insite. Yea hadn't heard anything but knew coming in he had the intangibles (spelling?) with size and strenght. Riley Reiff started early and don't know why that was a dumb ? but anyways I thought maybe he would have made strides to be a back up. I guess we will see when the official season 2 deeps comeout

There's a lot of depth, too, so it's not like it was a few years ago where RS frosh are getting into the 2-deeps as fast. There's more depth and talent on the OL, so Donnal may need to bide his time.
Speaking of Big Zus, I thought he was very impressive last year and love his mean streak. Anybody know his draft stock? Obviously Reiff is the OL everyone is talking about, but I thought Zus also showed great athleticism and isn't afraid to have a little "afters" once the play ends (which I hope IA always has an OL like that).

From what I have seen he is projected around the 5th or 6th round right now. If he has another great season, and a solid combine, that could easily bump up to the 3rd or the 4th.

Looking at just the media day pictures. He looks like he needs a lot of shoulder work. Of course, some guys just aren't going to have that 'look' regardless of the time they put in the weight room, yet can really play but unlike some of the guys he doesn't look like has the muscular thickness to be a starter. I don't know. It was looking to me like Alvis was owning Scherff there. Of course, taking on a quick, high motor guy like Alvis is a tough assignment.

Binns is on record stating that Zus is better than Calloway ... and Calloway was a late round draft. Part of Zus's advantage is that he's quicker and more athletic than Calloway ... so he has better luck handling speed rushers. Furthermore, Zus also had the advantage of being a bit more confident when he entered the picture. Calloway was kinda thrown to the wolves in '07 ... and that probably hurt his confidence some (he was a bit like a human turnstile that year).
Anyhow, I agree with the assessment that if Zus has a really good year and then tests well at the combine ... he could probably climb up to the 4th round.

It probably depends a lot on what part of the season you're talking about. With all the work and preparation that the guys put in during the year ... they often lose a bit of their weight through the season.
