Andre Dawson as a walk on...

This is my first "thread" guys so bear with me. I just read that Andre Dawson will be walking on at Iowa next fall. Any thoughts regarding this? I do remember that he was on the board for the Hawks a few years ago and I think he kind of dropped off after the commitment of Coker. Can he step in and compete right away or is he going to be for depth for a while?

Considering the history of that position at Iowa I think it's fair to say anyone on the roster with "RB" next to their name has a reasonable chance of contributing next year. He would also likely be a contributor on special teams as well.

If I remember he had a few offers from other BigTen schools but he waited to long to make a decision some schools backed off. Then he ended up at UNI.

I read the article on Hawkeye report and he went to UNI and then transferred to Iowa Western. Granted it's hard to take most of the recruiting sights for face value but ESPN had him as a 78 which is just below what they consider a 4 star prospect and they seemed to have a strong opinion as to his upside. Mark Farley also said that he had been a model student athlete at UNI.

I saw his tape from IWCC he looked great, but so does everyone on their highlight reel. He has the build of a safety as well as a RB.

My new philosphy on RB's is to look at who is at the bottom of the d-chart by week 1. That guy will be your starter by the bowl game. However, you have to do the same thing the next year even if the bowl game starter is a fresh or sophmore b/c they will soon be kicked out or quit. Does not matter if the guy is Lawrence Phillips or Tim Tebow. At Iowa, no RB is safe.

word.

So is the consensus that he'll be a safety or running back. I'm kind of thinking Nico Law will be pretty good and Tanner Miller still has a few years of eligibility

when i hear someone ask if a player can come in and play as a freshman in the RB position (not a superstar, high star recruit that has expectations), or in this case a transfer - I will from now on think of Adam Robinson.

He likely is a RB. The upside of Nico Law is high, and Tanner Miller made leaps and bounds from spring ball last year until now. The kid has potential to be a very good safety in the Big Ten.

i have a cousin that plays LB at Uni and he says he's quicker then fast not the toughest kid. But he's got good hands but can't block. So we'll see. He's a body at least with potential. Kinda sounds like Albert Young with less fan fare...

Watching him run in his highlight vid reminds me of Adam Robinson:
-more quick than fast
-lots of short steps and always keeps his feet moving

last i knew albert was still getting paid to play football, so that is a pretty good comparison.....

KnightHawk - Should work out well for us provided he doesn't have a lapse in the mental department then.

Except Albert Young was very tough and a great blocker.

with Dawson walking on and it sounds like Malloy is walking on, both are/were 3* recruits
Dawson 6'2 220 4.5 40
Malloy 6'1 195 4.4 40

how big of a blow would it really be if we lose 3* Lynch
