An Iowa win over Nebraska...

Dont know that you can call it a season saver, but it might be close.

The loss at Minnesota is never going to be shaken off...however, before the year if I asked you what was more likely, a win at Minn and a loss at Neb or the reverse, I think we all know the answer.

To beat Nebraska in Lincoln, getting Iowa to 8-4 and possibly a New Years Day (legit) bowl bid in a rebuilding year for the program, where it returned the fewest starters of any Big Ten team?

I think that would be a pretty darn strong effort.

I predicted 8-4 at the start of the season so I would be happy. Surprised how we wouldve gotten there but 8-4 would be a solid season

my prediction was 8-4. Beating the shuckers to get there will make it that much sweeter!

I feel a lot better about this game today than I did on Friday. Nebraska got annihilated by Michigan and that had to hurt. It ended their dreams of a B1G championship, something that their fans and even players were jawing about earlier in the season. Remember when TMart said he looked forward to beating Wiscy in the rematch? This has to sting for them. Iowa is playing for pride now, and we finally got that road monkey off of our back. We played pretty sloppy yesterday, and that needs to be cleaned up going into Lincoln. But I like our chances.

Beating NEB in Nebraska would Make this a Great season! Should be a good game with Nebraska havening a slight edge because of home field advantage. I believe that this game is more important to fans, then any bowl game we could go to. :) Go Hawks

If this team can go into Lincoln and get a win.. It makes that turd in a punch bowl (loss to Minn) like Jon said seem easier to choke down. I think the win yesterday was a must for their confidence to know they can go out there and win on the road. Granted totally different venue to play at, but the guys got that road win they needed.

If people don't understand how important Iowa winning the first game in this series will be they just don't understand perception beyond the tip of their nose.

This is a chance to develop the first national rivalry in the history of the program.

I don't think it's going to happen. But yeah totally changes the perception of the season. 8 - 4 with wins over meatchiken, fitz, neb would be a success. Especially considering how bad this team was at the start of the year.

Shoot....I live in Minnnesota and would STILL take the loss to the Gophers if it means a win over Nebraska on Friday (+ and 8-4 record + a New Year's Day bow).

So what's your converse of a "season saver" if Iowa loses?

8-4/5-3 are my base expectations for the program. We won't be playing for the division in the last week which is another expectation, but my thinking is that the potential for the 3rd loss would be the last week.

That being said, I agree with JD here - I think you have to be happy with this record, NOT because of what we lost (we were playing a lot of SR's still) but because of how we started. If you had asked anyone after Penn State if the 3-2 Hawkeyes were going to finish with a 5-2 effort, I think most people would have looked at the body of work and laughed at you.

I lived in Omaha for 3 years, back when a meeting between Nebraska and Iowa hadn't happened since Ferentz got Iowa "back" to a winning level. And a meeting between the two schools seemed like a fantasy, there was just no way they would ever play a game, unless it was in a bowl game (came close one year, but Michigan dropped to the Alamo bowl vs Nebby). After all the discussions with friends and co-workers who were Nebby fans about the outcome of a hypothetical meeting, this game is absolutely huge. No matter what record the schools have. This is huge from the standpoint of the two programs finally meeting, and which program will win this game.

Before the season I expected the Hawks to end up 8-4 or better. Then after Minnesota I thought they would end up being 5-7. Now they are 7-4 and rebuilding they are allmost respectable again.
A win in Lincoln would be a great finish to an up and down year. They way Binns and Daniels played yesterday, it's a possibility.

This is a huge game in terms of Iowa becoming a legit rival for Nebraska. 8-4 (5-3) looks a lot better than 7-5 (4-4)too.

However, Iowa still has to do a better job of taking advantage of weak schedules, particularly when the B10 as a whole is very weak like this year.

I'm very happy they won yesterday but we have to keep perspective. Iowa's conference wins are over IND, NW, MICH, & @PUR. Combined record of those teams is 21-23 with a B10 record of 11-17. Much of that damage being done by Michigan.

MUST BEAT NEBRASKA.....I would be satisfied losing every game if I knew for certain that we would beat UNL

Its that important.
