An honest question re officiating in the Purdue game.

LOL, since when does "being incapable of ripping officials" mean I'm biased. I chose not to "rip officials" because i can appreciate just how difficult a job it is. That doesn't mean I'm incapable of being unbiased or I'm unable to say when a bad call is made.

The world isn't all in black and white stripes man. Case in point the shot clock violation, they clearly kicked it. That said I'm not going to "rip the officials" because they kicked it. I'm curious to know why they didn't get it right, and I'm curious to know what was said in that conference after the initial signal.

But whatever floats your boat. If "ripping officials" makes you feel better so be it. I guess I just never understood the point? The call has already been made, ******** and moaning won't change it.

When you can defend ED HIGHTOWER after a God-awful call, you lose all credibility. It's hardly like this is the first time he's made a call like this.

He's not Jim Joyce. He makes calls like this almost every night out. He didn't blow it because it was a tough call to make. He blew it because his desire to be the center of attention led him to make a call that WASN'T HIS TO MAKE. Kind of like the majority of his blown calls.

Officials should be anonymous. And if they're good, they usually are.

As I have said before. Duff is a Hightower apologist. He seems to think he shares some sort of bond of brotherhood with fast Eddie because he refs at some level. It is nearly as comical watching him defend Hightower as it is watching Eddie come flying in from the far end of the court to overrule a call.

to be fair... I thought the refs missed some calls in our favor. I saw a couple of times in which Johnson took contact in his forearm when releasing a jump shot and we got the favor of these no calls.

I was pretty upset at the time about the shot lock but in hindsight it wasn't that big of a deal if Purdue got the rebound anyways. I thought the refs missed one on a ball that went out of bounds that they gave the possession to Purdue.

I supposse other than that I thought it was called pretty well. I actually think they called more fouls on Purdue for riding our ball handlers than I have seen Purdue get called for in other games.

Lay off Duff, both of you guys. There is an unwritten rule in officiating of not criticizing another official, and Duff is better at following it than some of us. Not to say you can't question a call or wonder what the official saw, because the rest of us didn't see it.

I frankly appreciate Duff's information and insight, which is usually pretty straight-forward and unbiased.

How is saying he missed the call being an apologist? I have no bond or allegiance to any official. I have no problem calling a spade a spade. I CHOOSE not to get personal when I do that, and if that bothers some of you so be it.

Regarding the shot clock violation there are a lot of things to question on that. 1) That's not Eddies whistle so why did he blow the whistle to begin with. 2) The guy that called the conference after the whistle is the guy who's got the ball hitting the rim in that situation. Why didn't he make the call, or set the record straight during the conference. I don't know the answer to these questions so I'm not going to lay the blame on any one persons feet. As I've said many times in a few different threads the CREW kicked it.

Regarding the way the perimeter was officiated I think it was very strong, and very consistent. In the first half Purdue got a lot of whistles for hand checking. That went away in the second half because Purdue made the adjustment and kept their hands out of there. They played D with their feet and bodies. Give Purdue credit for making the adjustment.

BTW we bodied up Purdue all day long as well, and the officials were very consistent with letting that go as well. Cole, Brommer, and Archie were pounding on Johnson all game long. They banged him off the block, they banged him on cuts, and they banged him when he had the ball. Again I think the officials did a very nice job keeping it consistent on both ends of the floor.
