We have athletes at this position. All these guys, Welch, Jones, and Neiman can run. Neiman is supposedly faster than his brother was...which is saying something because Ben ran with TEs and backs very well. There are a few other guys that factor in here...Wade and Colbert are also very good athletes...Hockaday is also in the mix.
If they do the work in the film room...and Phil gets them prepared...we should be pretty salty on defense.

I like that they're all underclassmen. LB is one position where there's no substitute for game experience and to be able to have the same trio back next year is a big deal. Especially with an older Epenesa and (hopefully) Anthony Nelson. It might be hell to run the ball on the Hawks next year.
McDonald is the fastest. They definitely need to get him some pt and push him along. That guy could be a game changer in a year or so.

He will have to be pretty special to see the field at LB this year. I could see him on special teams, but I'm not saying it's impossible. Didn't someone say if we need to depend on true freshmen this year...we are in big trouble. I think it was the current linebacker coach.

Iowa has a very good group of linebackers ready to go this season. They will help this defense to be great.
Yes and Phil said he's not opposed to giving a little pt to freshmen at the position, if he can. We have a couple of them actually. Not depend on freshman, but to give them some pt at lb.
