Alumni game?

I emailed the idea to Barta

If you have time, or like the idea, feel free to let him know.

GREAT IDEA!
Here's what I wrote to him:
Mr. Barta,

Sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to let you know how excited many of us are about your hire. GREAT JOB! I will support your decision regardless of the outcome, just like I did with Lickliter.
There has been some talk about doing an alumni game this year. This is a great idea! I would love to see some of the old players come back and I think it would be great for the program. If this does occur, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask Mr. Davis Davis to coach the alumni. This would immediately sell out Carver and I believe it could reignite excitement for the program. A lot of fans (including myself and my family) were very turned off by the way he was let go and this would go a long way towards redeeming your predecessors mistake.
If no alumni game happens, I would still like to see him involved in some way (any way). Even if it’s just being on the sideline for a couple games and being recognized, maybe with some old players.

Thanks for your time,
Tom Morrison

Please tell me theres another Pierce that your referring to...

So you think that all these alumni have been playing basketball and working out everyday since they stopped playing ball at Iowa?

Obviously your not going to invite everyone, but to suggest that it wouldn't be a good idea because our current team would get embarrassed is stupid and untrue.

If you put up a team of

Reiner, Moore, Duez, Brunner, Horner, Haluska and Jones and added some other guys like the ones in the press room the other day, ala Bowen, you would have a team that I think would work the kids. And of course, I haven't included any of the current NBA players.

Moore schools kids annually in Prime Time. Jones is playing professionally in the developmental league! Brunner gets paid professionally and is doing really well in Europe. Duez is a coach, but plays in Prime Time every summer. Horner is a coach who you know is still working out and I am sure tries to take it to his players every day. Iowa has no one that could stop that front line from scoring at will.

Now, if you put an age limit on players, then things would work better. Say everyone had to graduate over ten years ago.

Also, if you did that it would be more compelling because we all would rather see Marble, Gamble, BJ, Lohaus, etc. than the Alford guys just for nostalgia.

Why just one alumni game? Reunite the guys from the 70s for one team, 80s for another, 90s for another, 00s for another. Make it a mini tournament--just 10- or 20-minute long games if the old fogies can't take it :).

Have it during Homecoming. Then auction off their signed uniforms for charity.

You think I meant bring back Ricky Davis, Reggie Evans, Adam Haluska, Brunner or Horner?

Plenty of Alumni out there that could make it a competitive game. Your being very closed minded, theres a lot more than those few players you mentioned.
