Alumni game?

I think we need to have a "midnight madness" type of event.

I'm thinking an alumni game vs our current roster along with an introduction of the team.

Something like Michigan State does, obviously wont be as great, but something similar.

Things like that is what could bring that excitement back to Carver, that we've been missing.

A midnight madness thing would be awesome. The resurrection of Iowa basketball.

Deace always talks about tradition vs. nostalgia. Complacent Hawkeye fans need a good dose of Iowa basketball tradition.

Do you really want the current players to get schooled in front of the fans for their first game?

Over statement of the day.

I would guess a lot of former BB players haven't been working on their jumper every day. Or even working out at all.

To suggest they would get beat badly is ignorant. They may get beat, but not embarrassed or anything.

I think this is a great idea but why at Midnight Madness? I understand the timing and the excitement but why not on a Saturday afternoon in the pre, pre season. Instead of just having 5k students, why not shoot to pack CHA during the day.

Iowa needs to re-invigorate all Hawkeye fans including kids.

That would be awesome! Who would you wanna see back? Jacob Jackks (SP?) get's my vote haha.......I loved that guy. He was out of his friggin' mind.

Dude-

An alumni game with Mr. Davis coaching the alumni team...

That would put 15,500 in for midnight madness for sure and would be a great marketing idea.

Yes.

This would atone for past sins.

Atonement and resurrection... must be getting close to Easter...

Springsteen - I'm jewish man!

What is this easter you speak of...

Kidding. Irish Italian over here, but I admit the name is confusing, I mean Springsteen is neither Italian or Irish.

I think the Midnight Madness and the Alumni Game should be two different events.

For Midnight Madness, you have the returning starters vs. the incoming freshmen. Split up the others to make the game interesting/close. Have the assistant coaches coach each team. Perhaps Caff can officate. Do it as a way to introduce the team and make money for charity.

For the Alumni game, have the current team play against alumni. Having Tom Davis coaching the alumni would be awesome. Another way to introduce the team while reminding everyone what Hawkeye basketball has been about in the past.

Um, some ex-players who play in the Prime Time league, Like Daryl Moore, look pretty good. Also, we have guys like Brunner. Pierce and Oliver playing in Europe, and Duez coaching there. And a D-League guy like Doug Thomas.

Besides that, there are guys like Horner and Haluska, who I am sure can still fill it up.

While guys who are practicing as a team should be able to beat guys just coming together to play a game, I still wouldn't put it past the old timers to try to show the young guns what Iowa basketball should be about.

Great idea on the Alumni game. However, might need a stipulation that Pierce never plays in it.....

No thanks, sub him with reggie evans or ricky davis, so what if they are pros its not like they are all-stars. I'm kind of opposed to the alumni game though because what if a player goes down with a leg injury and is done for the year. I think just a regular midnight madness or saturday afternoon madness with a pep rally and famous alums would do well in my book.

PG - B.J
SG - Kingsbury
SF - Kenyon
PF - Jess
C - Evans or Bowen

That would be cool.

Please tell me theres another Pierce that your referring to...

So you think that all these alumni have been playing basketball and working out everyday since they stopped playing ball at Iowa?

Obviously your not going to invite everyone, but to suggest that it wouldn't be a good idea because our current team would get embarrassed is stupid and untrue.
