Alternate take on Freeh report

I think the stigma on Paterno way back to 1998, is that he was following the case closely. He had already forced out Sandusky (the million dollar question is why) though he later allowed Sandusky to coach the 1999 season under a 90 day extension agreement. What is so troubling is that having followed the case closely, Paterno then still allowed Sandusky to bring children to PSU facilities.

To follow up on some other points - the counselor (Seasock), that said Sandusky was not displaying signs of pedophile behavior, was not even licensed at the time he did his analysis. They used his analysis to override the analysis of the doctor who said Sandusky did show signs of being a pedophile. Some wonder now if he was a ringer for the University and Second Mile.

The Chief of Police, Harmon, was keeping top PSU officials up to date on the 1998 case. He notified them he was able to keep the matter out of the logbook thus keeping the allegations from becoming public knowledge - coverup?

It standard operating procedure in 1998 was to notify the state of any allegations of pedophilia. This was also not done in this instance - coverup?

thanks for the rational response. To some fans,if you simply ask questions about the evidence, you are endorsing child rape.
Some good points made here.
Not sure about the specifics of Sandusky's ''retirement'' from PSU.
Or the non-licensed therapist. News to me.
I go back to the Chief of Police tho....shouldnt he be brought up on charges of covering up and not complying with the reporting requirements? Seems to me that there is a whole host of guilty parties who have not been arrested yet. Is that gonna happen? If not, why?

McQuery told Joe that Jerry raped a boy in the shower. Joe went and told the AD and President. The AD and President put a plan together to go to Child Welfare as well as Second Mile. After meeting with Joe to let him know about their plan, Joe put the kibash on it and they did nothing. As a result, at least 8 more kids were raped. Some on bowl game trips, some within the PSU facilities themselves.

One detail I would add to this otherwise bullseye post: ol' joe also lied to the Grand Jury last year.

"Spot on" except for multiple factual errors. Per the Freeh Report:
  • Joe didn't tell "the AD and President". President Spanier was briefed later by Curley & Schulz, and the record indicates they minimized the incident to Spanier.
  • The report doesn't indicate Joe "put the kibosh" on their plan, but that Curley recommended Spanier do so, after Curley talked to Joe - and got Spanier to agree easily because he hadn't given Spanier the full picture. Spanier is a child abuse survivor. After reading the full report, I'm convinced he never would have agreed to this had he known what McQueary actually saw.
  • They told Sandusky to stay out of PSU facilities and even changed the locks - but unfortunately did not enforce this further
  • 2 kids not 8 were assaulted after the McQueary incident, both in 2001 in the Lasch building (Victim 3 and Victim 5). Bowl trip was in 1999. That's bad enough, obviously.
  • Joe's grand jury testimony isn't contradicted by the report

Others raise the sinister issue of an "unlicensed" counselor. Counselors weren't required to be licensed at that time. PA later changed their law and the guy promptly got licensed. The prosecutor had access to THREE reports with which to make his charging decision. Keep in mind sexual contact was not alleged, and the victim agreed with Sandusky's account of "hugging", which would make a successful prosecution very difficult (and I'm aware the victim had some incentive to lie)

Read the article and the Freeh Report. Curley and Schulz are the bad guys here, the perfect bureaucratic a**holes working to insulate Paterno and Spanier from embarrassment. Along with the local police for not immediately interviewing Sandusky after witnessing his conversation with the 1998 victim's mother (the one ending "I wish I were dead"). That could have stopped the whole sordid affair in its tracks.

Edit: forgot about the t*****t**e angle for a second.

Ok. I finally read the power line blog. Some good points were made.

On another note, if you're interested in far-right wing blogs, check out these scintillating titles on that same website:
