All Time Starting Five

Lester
Kingsbury
Uthoff
Street
Earl

There's some mixing and matching for ya. Kingsbury was an underrated defender and rebounder for a guard. He had shoulders like a linebacker. That front line would have been pretty tough to score on. I hate leaving guys off a list like this cause I loved me some BJ and Marble. If Marble could have shot outside 15 feet... In college he could just use his athleticism to get to the rim and jump over guys. That team I put out there can shoot free throws really well too. I'd put them up against about any other group you can put out there of past Hawks.

I'd have liked to see Evans and Street go at it. There's two guys that'd compete like crazy.

1st Team
PG-Ronnie Lester
SG-Kevin Boyle
SF-Roy Marble
PF-Chris Street
C-Kevin Kunnert

Bench
BJ Armstrong
Acie Earl
Reggie Evans
Ryan Bowen
Greg Stokes
Connie Hawkins
Vince Brookins

Acie Earl or Jeremiah Robinson-Earl?
Acie Earl. He wasn't the most athletic big guy (understatement) but he could defend block shots and had a nice turn around jumper. I think he had a cup of coffee in the NBA before hanging it up. I think he even put up 30 on Ewing once

My all-time Hawk team would include the four best Hawkeye players I have seen play: Freddie Brown, John Johnson, Ronnie Lester & Sam Williams. Williams, Johnson & Brown are Iowa's three highest points per game scorers, respectively. My center would be Kevin Kunnert. Kunnert leads the Hawks in career double-doubles. Kevin also has the record with 12.7 rebounds per game. The sixth man would be my favorite Hawk of all-time: Glenn "The Stick" Vidnovic.

I absolutely agree with ColumbusHawk. The 1970 team was on TV maybe...twice?. You can really tell the age of the person (or when they starting watching the Hawks) by who they chose. Go back and watch film of the 50s' teams, the style of play completely changed in the late 60s' and is pretty much the same today. Although I admit that the three point shot changed the game, for the worse IMO. I would be reluctant to put the Fabulous Five and other players from the 50s' in the Top 5. But the players mentioned above would dominate in any era.

Oh, and I had a Sam Williams autographed basketball, from an older brother's basketball camp.....and lost it. Didn't see him play, but my brother still says he was the greatest Hawkeye of all time, to include Ronnie Lester.

Stick is my all-time favorite, too!

My team, similar to yours:
Guards Ronnie Lester and Fred Brown.
Forwards John Johnson and Sam Williams
Center....not sure. Kunnert, Earl or Greg Stokes.

My earliest memories of watching Iowa basketball only dates back to the mid 90's, but since that time Andre Woolridge has been the best Hawkeye basketball player and it really isn't even close.
He got a raw deal that one year Bobby Jackson got all the pub over him... Andre dominated the BIG that year just strait up dominated it. He was built like a fullback and was fun to watch

Nearly beat Kentucky single-handed and I believe they went on to win the title that year.

My first memories watch the Hawks are from 1982 and Woolridge is still the best. Starting from '82...

Woolridge
Kingsbury
Marble Sr
R Evans
Ed Horton

21st Century team

Horner
Haluska
Uthoft
White
R Evans

Unconventional smallball/spread lineup--

Andre Wooldridge
Ronnie Lester
Fred Brown
Chris Kingsbury
Reggie Evans

Spread the floor, run like crazy, shoot tons of 3s, and let Reggie grab the boards and do all the dirty work.

The list only includes people I saw actually play. I think with the versatility many of the positions could be swapped and we could go big or small. I still firmly believe that Chris Street would have been the best Hawkeye player of all-time had he not had the accident. Just my 2 cents

1st Team

PG Ronnie Lester
SG Roy Marble
SF Jared Uthoff
PF Ed Horton
C Acie Earle

2nd Team and Bench

PG BJ Armstrong
SG Kevin Gamble/Chris Kingsbury
SF Ryan Bowen
PF Chris Street/Reggie Evans
C Greg Stokes/ Matt Bullard
Spot-on!! Nailed the 1st Team perfectly.
My two cents would be to replace Gamble with Vince Brookins. That dude had the silkiest jump shot ever!

PG BJ Armstrong - never have had previously, nor neve will have a better PG than BJ
SG Chris Kingsbury - Dude could launch from 1/2 court and make it look easy
SF Roy Marble - Sr was a swingman not a 2
PF Reggie Evans - best rebounder
C Acie Earl - as awkward as he was to watch, the guy could patrol the paint and get boards.

2nd Team (all old guy team)

PG Steve Carfino
SG Bobby Hansen
SF Kevin Gamble
PF Michael Payne
C Greg Stockes
I loved BJ, he was fantastic!
When it comes to the PG position though, you just say "Ronnie Lester" and then drop the mic.
