All of a sudden, I'm very afraid about tonight's game

I just had some negative thoughts:

1. Valentine getting out of his shooting slump by jacking in about 5 of 7 threes.

2. Aaron White making some early stupid fouls, then Uthoff coming into replace him and making a couple quick turnovers that lead to fast break points.

3. Woody getting beat up down low and throwing an elbow to a Sparty face.

4. Marble forcing stuff into the lane, stumbling, falling, then watching a Sparty stuff at the other end as he jogs up to the midcourt line.

5. Gesell getting beat on the dribble-drive over and over again.

6. Trice and Ellis hitting half of their three point shots.

7. MSU getting offensive rebounds and tip outs on a continual basis.

8. Iowa making unforced turnovers.

9. Oglesby running himself ragged and getting only one shot off.

10. Fran gets a T.

Why am I worrying so much?

Underachievement syndrome hit me hard this morning for some reason.

Please knock some sense into me.

MSU typically is rock solid on defense.

However, I thought Michigan exposed their weakness with transition from a missed shot. If Iowa plays solid defense and rebounds, this game won't be close.

I really like our chances in this game. Iowa has been pretty tough on MSU in Carver in recent years. Blew them out a couple years ago, and honestly let it get away late last year. They are down 2 players as well, and Iowa is as good as it's been since at least 2006. This team hasn't turned in a true dud of a performance all year long, so I have no reason to expect they will be awful tonight.

I'm not taking this game lightly at all and I'd be surprised if this wasn't a close, hard fought game, but I fully anticipate an Iowa victory tonight. It'll be a tough loss to swallow if I'm wrong. This is a game that Iowa needs to win if it wants to be a contender.

The way I figure is if Iowa wants to really contend and still have a shot for the Big Ten Title, they will find a way to win this game. If not, then it was not meant to be and we did not do what we needed to do to win this game.

Iowa has to take advantage of a very good team down 2 of its most important players on your own home court. If Iowa does just enough, but not enough to overcome bad officiating (if that happens) its on them. They need to be convincing tonight and win this game like a good team should on their own home court.

Iowa is already back a couple of games in the standings, so they are going to have to really rise to the challenge to win this conference.

I think MSU is missing 2 of their top 5 players, if that does not set up well for Iowa, not sure what more you need.

Iowa by 11..

Remember when we randomly beat them by 20 3 years ago? I expect a repeat of that.

You are just a Hawkeye Fan! I like to live in "Realville" and don't think the Hawks will win tonight. This thought process just comes from a history of following the hawks. It would be nice and I'll be rooting for them and hope they prove me wrong but Iowa just does not have a great history of success in hyped up games on the big stage. (yes there are a few) Insert reply with list below if you must! I'll be interested in how Fran coaches; Iowa is DEEP and he has options, if someone is not playing well and showing signs of jitters ect.. pull em and put in someone else, go deep and run run run. MSU is not exactly inserting players from pick up games on campus, these are division 1 players who chose MSU over alot of other teams and what I'm worried about is they insert a Jok like player who lights up the hawkeyes because Iowa did not plan for them.

Talent, health, depth, Carver, Dev and Whitey being due for tip-to-horn games, Gabe blowing up, McCabe getting confidence back, JO and JU bounce back game ... EVERYTHING on paper says Hawks should win this game by 10 or more.

I'll never go out on a limb and say Hawks beat a ranked team by 20, but the matchup favors the Hawks. If Appling's wrist is still bothering him, MSU is going to need a monster game from their bench players to win tonight. Spartans are also coming off an emotional loss where their starters played a ton of minutes. Spartans have a number of things against them tonight and playing at Carver doesn't help them either.

With all that said I'll still be on pins and needles until the clock hits 0.

All things considered, "Realville" says Hawks will win by 6-12 points. Sounds more to me like you moved to "Doubtsville", a suburb of "Skepticynic City".

( I have a home there during football season. ;))

This is MSU IZZO, "Realville" tells us that all those things you list are not going to happen all in one night but lets hope for the best because they will need to bring it tonight!

Iowa is favored by 6 points. Hopefully they win by one point. ...just win. MSU is like a wounded animal, and they will come out super intense. Iowa has to play fearlessly...push,push,push....and play all 40 minutes at 100 mph.

I say Hawks will pull this one out on a last second shot by Josh.....Iowa 78 MSU 77.

As crazy good as the '87 team was, they finished with 5 B1G losses and 2nd in conf. They ended up 3pts away from the final 4. If this team loses tonight - no biggie, more important would be to really learn from the loss and adjust.

You're depressing. This one is in the book. They're missing two of their best ballers. We're on a hot roll. I really see this one as a +15 point win. We would cover the spread on a nuetral court. For this game, both White and Marble try starting with the first half instead of waiting until H2.

I will take a win, but please not like this. Stress free, 10 point win works for me.

Valentine is a head case...more likely to make a dumb TO than get hot. Our defense is too good to let any of the other guys that worry you go off for a big game. Appling and Harris could have good games. If anyone else makes any noise we'll adjust. All of your concerns about Iowa players could happen...when we play at Michigan State. We're at home and the guys will be motivated and ready to go.
