We will see if there is a difference in the "no more visits" policy based on star power as Matt Hankins is scheduled to visit Michigan
Exactly and you shouldn’t. Just a couple yrs ago at the RB position Iowa had the rug pulled on them by that Higdon kid that went to Michigan literally on signing day. Well magically Iowa got that kid from Alabama that literally nobody had ever heard of in their back pocket to come that same day. I think this year Iowa may have that Soko kid from Muscatine that’s next in line if say Eno jumps. I think he’s currently committed to one of the Dakota schools. In fact he may still get an Iowa offer depending how the chips fall because he may end up as a DB instead. So we’ll just have to see. But to your point of how it’s a two way street is exactly that. Kids will be kids and coaches do what they have to to cover their own in case kids jump ship on them. It’s always been that way and it isn’t changing with an early signing day or anything else. This whole things just gets me. I get that other schools are actively recruiting committed players but what's the harm. I understand that he's verbally committed to Iowa and hasn't signed anything at this point, but at the same time you mean to tell me that the staff isn't looking for other quality players in the event that a 17 or 18 year old high schooler has a change of heart? I just don't buy that.
I get the business side of recruiting, but it just bothers me. Let the kids be young, they only get to be recruited once. I see it as nothing more than a power move by the coaching staff to tell a player that they can do this or can do that after verbally committing. They get a commitment from a talent like his with the offer sheet that he has and then they want to call the shots. I just don't get it. He obviously loved the Hawkeyes and has done nothing but help recruit and praise the program, why put such a tight leash on him. Let him take his visits, who knows he may bring us a few verbals from other programs.
You guys are burying your heads in the sand if you think that letting committed kids visit other schools is "harmless". Don't commit if you want to take other visits, that is pretty simple. Iowa gave up on lots of other RB a long time ago because Eno said he is committed. Iowa is committed to Eno and they expect him to be committed to them, it is a two way street.
there's nothing particularly comforting about that article
Iowa isn't 'letting' them take visits other places per say. And I'm sure Iowa has another RB in their pocket and I mentioned in previous post I think the Soko kid is next up if Eno jumps. It's not that kids visiting other places is harmless because it's obviously not. It's just that there's nothing you can do to prevent it. You can draw lines in the sand and say you'll yank their offer but that's it. But just imagine if KF tells Eno he's yanking his scholly because of it... He'd have to be an idiot to do it. And he won't. Eno could flat out decommit and visit 4 more schools and Iowa would still gladly take him. I don't think that's how it'll play out by anymeans. By what Eno's tweeted it sounds like he's done visiting other places. So we'll just have to wait and see. This season is just getting going and signing day is a long ways off.You guys are burying your heads in the sand if you think that letting committed kids visit other schools is "harmless". I totally get what your saying. But it is a two way street. Schools change minds on kids during the process too. Remember that QB from IL a few yrs back Beneventi or something like that. It was fairly late in the process too. Iowa had 3 in one class for some reason and that kid was pretty much told sorry you no longer have one from us. Iowa's not the only school that does that sort of thing either. I have less of a problem with kids changing their minds than coaches. The kids are just that 17-18 yrs old. The priorities most of them have at that stage of their lives just change a lot. Coaches are supposed to be adults and their priorities are on either keeping their job or padding their resume for their next one. It's usually not in the best interest of the kid.... KF I think is about as good as it gets in this regard however he's not perfect either. There is something you can do to prevent it, and that is what Iowa does. If you visit other schools you risk your spot. It isn't like they yank the offer, it is more like well you are not guaranteed a spot any longer. IE they could go out and offer Soko and he if accepts, then your spot it gone.
I agree with Eno that isn't a big risk, but for Hankins it absolutely is. Iowa will make it clear that if he goes to Michigan that Iowa will talk to other DB kids and may make offers and his spot could get snapped up.
It is a two way street. Iowa is HOLDING a spot on the bus for you, because you promised you would be on that bus come Feb. Now if Iowa sees you eyeing some other bus to ride on come Feb., then they will go out looking for someone else to take your seat on that bus. I think that is totally fair for both parties. What I don't get is kids who say they want on the bus, but then keep shopping. That isn't fair to the school, and the school shouldn't put up with it if you ask me. You waste valuable time that could be used to get another similar kid. Say for instance with Hankins, he said in June he wanted on that bus. Iowa has wasted 4 months holding his spot, and now he wants to look at other busses? If I'm Iowa if he goes on that visit I offer 2 or 3 other DB, and accept their commitments and let him go if they want on the bus.
This is also fair to the kid. This is real life now, and decisions have consequences. If you wanna shop around and see what is out there, don't be surprised when the wife/girlfriend at home dumps your ass for doing so.....

I would agree with this. He does state he's a Hawk but also stated that they are working to repair the relationship. I truly hope that happens.
One thing I would add though is I think it would be hard for Eno to walk away given all the time and effort he has spent getting several other players on board. He's been a damn good recruiter for the Hawks. Let's just hope it's a minor blimp.
I understand where the staff is coming from in a conceptual way but sometimes concepts don't turn into reality. These kids visiting other schools is not harmless but Iowa doesn't hold the leverage here with Eno and Calloway. All recruits are not created equally. You are talking about a top 10 RB and a top 10 DB in the country. These players do not grow on trees for Iowa. We are not OSU/Bama, etc. When you have an opportunity to put together the type of class that Iowa is with 2017, you tread very lightly and make sure it happens. It could set up the program for years to come.
To me that means Eno doesn't fully understand the situation he's in and he's a kid that'd be a lot to ask too. But he's wanting to do right by the coaches because that's just how he is I think. But if say he was dead set on visiting anywhere else he could do it and his scholly would still be there for him at Iowa on signing day. I have no doubt about that.Eno does not hold "all the leverage". Read Rob's interview, Eno said himself the coaches were mad and Eno is trying to repair the relationship. The Iowa coaches are not beholden to players, they never have been and never will be, that just isn't the way they role. If Eno still comes to Iowa it is because HE REPAIRED the relationship, not because Iowa came begging to him.
Good point... It's all how one looks at things from where they sit. I can see recruits looking at it like that for sure. Doesn't make any of it right or wrong. It just is what it is. You'd want to have as player friendly of an atmosphere as possible yet coaches are control freaks. Where the middle ground is I'm not sure.I guess in my opinion it just doesn't make sense to tell a kid that has verbally committed that his commitment may not be honored if he visits other schools. To me that's like saying "we want you to be a Hawkeye, and you say you want to be a Hawkeye, but since your still saying your committed to being a Hawkeye, but taking recruiting trips to places like ASU Michigan, etc...we're going to reevaluate your commitment status and start looking at the guys beneath you that we weren't that interested in who we should have broken off ties with since you'd made your initial commitment."
I just don't get it and see it as a way of running off kids that want to play for you, but also want to live out their final years in high school while having as much fun as possible doing it.

With your last line....you made my point. If HE repairs the relationship. Eno holds the leverage. He has plenty of places to go if he so desires. No, the staff isn't beholden to him. He's also not beholden to them either. They can be mad all they want but if he doesn't want to repair it, he can walk which is more damaging to Iowa's program than it will be for Eno as he will go to another program that could be better than ours.
