Alfraud is getting crushed

for the 3rd time this season, by USC. Down 22 pts with 7 mins left. Lol! Daddy ball isn't working very well. 15-17 will be their final season record. With a bunch of 4 and 5* talent. Smh.

Wow, that's bad. And it's not like the PAC is some slaughterhouse. 15-17 won't cut it at most major conference schools, and sure as hell won't cut it at a place like UCLA. His seat has to be warm.

Seriously, how did this guy worm his way into one of the premier jobs in the nation?

Next stop, Wabash College.

At least he'll be finally 'home'

All while Indiana won the outright Big 10 Title this year and a team he used to coach will be headed to their 3rd straight NCAA Tourney, something he never came close to accomplishing.

He must feel FAR away from home right now. But hey..his hair still looks great and he has lots of money so that's most important! Fact is..the guy isn't a good coach. He was a great player. Maybe he can get a job in the WNBA

Iowa was nothing, ever ever, more than a stepping stone back to Bloomington for him.

Too bad. He didn't even get an interview.

It's no secret, he is a good not great mid major coach but a horrible power 5 coach. If and when he gets canned at UCLA it will be very difficult for him to get another power 5 job.

Yup. He did well at UNM but was mediocre at Iowa, and will be (and has been) mediocre at UCLA. With all the talent he's been able to get at a school like UCLA, I'm sure his teams will be competitive if he's around long enough to see it, but I'll wager he won't be able to survive long there with the standards they have at that school. It'd be kind of like Matt Dougherty at UNC - guy was able to get talent because the program pretty much recruits itself, but won't be able to coach the talent to Final Fours and national titles.

I am sure it wasn't his fault. Bad facilities, players didn't listen, students wouldn't support team......karma baby!

I'm fairly certain this thread is going to have three types of posters:
1. alford haters - That's me
2. alford apologists - how in the world they still exist is beyond me
3. alford hate baiters - aka the trolls of yester-year

If you look at the alford coaching regime as a whole, he had success at two schools (both mid majors). Even though he made the sweet 16 with a mid-major out of Missouri, his best success came at New Mexico. New Mexico was a gift as he was likely going to be fired at the end of the season by Iowa (see Tyler Smith).

New Mexico had a McDonalds AA on their roster that eventually was a 1st round NBA selection. The kid was kicked off Kansas hoops team because he stabbed someone (or something like that). NM also had a player that was returning from injury and alford walked in to a dominant mid-major roster. Combine that with a few Iowa recruits (Dairese Gary) that shouldn't be on a power 5 D1 roster but fit well on a mid major roster and you have the formula for immediate success at a lower tier midmajor program.

Noodles can recruit. Landing the kids from TX, especially Phillip McDonald, really helped solidify the NM squad for the short period of time alford was there.

Now that Noodles is coaching and not recruiting the Lobos are pretty bad. alfords assistants are 'connection' guys and likely will never sniff a head coaching opportunity. I've watched UCLA play several games this year and they a chaulked full of talent with absolutely no clue on how to play basketball. Listening to Bill Walton rail on this squad is worth the frustration of trying to comprehend what that stoner is really trying to say.

alfords bank account is fat but its important to know that his termination clause drops from $10m down to $5m after April 30th this year. UCLA has some seriously top rated talent signed for the next two years so it might be hard to imagine alford getting canned after this season but not out of the question. If Ben Howland turns Mississippi St around after just two years (and it looks like he has a chance) then UCLA fans will be calling for UCLA to return to the next level real soon.

Where will alford land? Please, please, please, please, please let it be Indiana.

Um, duh, UCLA is a football school now. Don't worry he'll be coaching the Lakers next year. Dude always seems to fall forward.

Uuuuh, didn't he win two Big Ten tournament championships at Iowa? WTF?

He sure did, but that's about all he won here.

It was those other 30 or so games of the year he never could seem to figure out.

There's been a lot of talk about late-season collapses lately.. Alf wasn't exactly Mr. February at Iowa.
