Blair Kerkhoff of KC Star is on Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City right now. They are examining our favorite Wonder Boy's record of "success" right now and whether or not he is good candidate.

As we all remember, this would not be Alford's first flirtation with Mike Alden.

Hope he gets the gig. I've hated having Alford out of sight, out of mind.

Wonder if Mr. Alden knows the attendance history at CHA during the Alford era.

Mr. Alden, after all, has a relatively new arena he needs to fill, not empty.

What... I had season tickets then and the house was packed. Recker vs. Indiana, Doug Thomas monster dunk against Michigan St. Some of the best days in CHA history.

Did you take your idiot pills this morning?

It would not surprise me if he got another shot at a big boy job and had success......It's not like he got plenty of on-the-job training at Iowa.

Very sad for the program if those are two of the best days in CHA history.:(

Factually, attendance at CHA went up in SA's first 4 years, then started falling off, with a bump for 2006 when they went 17-0 in CHA. We can only hope to get back to 2002 levels(15.5K) again soon.

All depends if he brings Neal with him...

or if Neal is offered the New Mexico job if/when Alford leaves.

My guess is that Alford bides his time at New Mexico and waits for the Indiana opportunity again.

So then you're able to attest first hand that attendance the last 4-6 years under Alford was in decline. You can also discuss with first hand knowledge of how the attendance which was consistently in the top 10 to 15 in the nation would gradually lose that lofty status too. You'll do that with all the gusto of anyone taking idiot pills.

Attendance had dipped in the last of the Mr. Davis years, then went up and stayed above the last year of Mr. Davis for SA's first 4 years, then slipped below water the last 4 years...but they did sellout those Big Ten games in 2006.

So, if Alden is looking for an attendance boost, based on SA's record in that dept at Iowa and NM...it is reasonable to expect him to boost attendance,at least for awhile.

Missouri has deep pockets and will let anybody in, so Alford would be a good choice for them. Worst case scenario he bends UNM over the barrel for a raise after leading them to the second round of the NIT. SDSU and UNLV lose key players. BYU is leaving the conference and UNM is loaded. He wins either way.

I think Shaka Smart will get a shot at the Mizzou job and possibly the Wichita State coach Marshall.

I think Shaka Smart will be a good coach, but right now, I don't think he's a coach you want to get in a bidding war over and NC State is going to throw a lot of money his way.

You can connect the Iowa basketball attendance drop-off during the SA years directly to the PP issue. And I, for one, actually appreciate the fans for that. Nice to see fans actually take a stand on an issue as significant as that.

However, it was also nice to see the fans reward the 2006 team, which was full of kids from Iowa playing their ****s off.

So the lowest attendance for Mr. Davis was 13,963 (last year). Prior to that carver was routinely above 15k people. Attendance went up around 1,200 people (from Dr Toms last year ONLY) during alfords first 3 yrs. But it was never higher than the peak yrs of Mr. Davis iirc. After a 3 yr charade it quickly plummeted to record lows and continued to slide until this year.

Wrong, hawkIhoops. They can't get just anyone in.

In the last two years they missed out on getting their top recruit in. Tony Mitchell was the name of the guy this last year and he is now at North Texas, I believe, where he could get in.

Maybe you don't know as much as you think you know.

SA is to young to take another major job again. Lon Krueger played his cards the right way, he hid away in Vegas for 7 years, collected a nice check but is going back to Oklahoma for one more go round with the big boys'. Even if Lon get the ship headed the right way in Oklahoma he will be retired in 7 years. SA isn't coach enough to come back and play in a major conference that also has a football program that is decent.

Couldn't disagree more. Now Pierre Pierce is the fall guy for Alford? Sure people were disappointed, embrassed, etc., but Alford was the reason people turned away from Iowa hoops. Most programs are going to have unpleasant situations arise, but that is part of coaching. In case you don't remember, a lot of folks wanted him back on the court after the first incident because of the impact he had on the team.
