Alford and the lobos

They played poorly compared to other times I have seen them. They really could of lost this game very easily...Steve looked uncomfortable and lost when the game got really tight late. Noodles was doing all the coaching and calling plays...Stevie was staring alot.

UNM will have all it can handle against Washington. Washington is on a roll, just as quick or quicker than UNM and just as big or bigger than UNM, which will give UNM trouble. UNM has trouble with big teams. I don't think they get by the second round. Washington is peaking at the right time. They won't be afraid to run with UNM...

I have a thought. Well...more of a gesture. I'm doing it now. Still doing it. And....still doing it.

They have a very good squad and will probably make the Sweet 16 to torment me.

After watching Washington knock off Marquette last night, I think Alford is seriously going to have his hands full in tomorrow's 2nd round game. Washington is a serious step up in ability and athleticism from Montana, based on what I saw last night.

I am over Alford and rooting against him, but I have to admit that it was a somewhat bitter moment for me last night, watching UNM finish off that game and advance with another team.

Any thoughts?

Several...

First, good for Steve and UNM for a first-round win. Several high seeds dropped on day one, and Steve has done that as a 3-seed, as well. Glad for him and team that they weathered a tough effort by Montana.

Second, I hope he and UNM do well and advance further. Not sure how good Washington is or isn't, because Marquette is, to me, another of those "mystifying" teams that can look really good or wildly inconsistent. But should they get past Washington, I firmly believe they will be playing in the East Region final. I think West Virginia is the only "legit" team in that part of the bracket after the Washington game. And I'm not sure they are as good as advertised.

Thirdly, I want Steve and UNM to do well because they aren't a Big East or ACC team, aren't from a team or conference that goes in to "cherry pick" from small population states while at the same time having the picks of the litter in the major metro areas (**Cough** <Harrison Barnes going to UNC> **Cough**). And whether or not ESPN douchebags want toaySteve got a raw deal at IOWA or whether IOWA got the raw deal--and in retrospect, it always cuts both ways--we can at least say he "learned" at IOWA.

I gotta believe the first-round loss to NW State had a deeper impact than we may have seen on the surface. After all, after the sting of that loss, we then lose Alex Thompson--one of the heroes of the BTT Championship game--to Iowa State. I think it was a tougher recovery for Steve than originally perceived.

So while that "learning experience" came at IOWA's expense, it's also payback for how Bowlsby treated Mr. Davis Davis.

Good luck to Steve and the Lobos. "Buddies for life, I think"

Watching that team reminded me of Alford teams at Iowa. Good play, lets lesser talented teams stick around to upset you at the end.

And you know that from watching on your TV set from 2,000 miles away?

Or is this another attempt to show how smart you are? Not sure which!!

What did he say that you couldn't observe on tv? Who the hell cares if it is 2,000 miles away or 10,000, you can still make observations watching the tv. I'm pretty sure KF made some observations of GT before the Orange Bowl on a tv that was playing a tape of a game that occured 2,000 miles away.

I see some kids that could have been at Iowa( Gary in particular)... I see a #3 seed... I see them advancing.... I see us as one of the worst programs in the country.... upsetting to watch but good for him. The Alford experiment was and nobody can deny it a mishap on both of Steve's and the University's part.

Agreed. And nobody loves the way it looks more than the golden boy, Steve himself. Isn't it crazy (and sad) that he won as many NCAA games last night as he did in EIGHT years at Iowa?!!!

i do think it was sad... Jon mentioned in an article earlier that Steve learned on the job the first few years ( Steve's fault ).... the university also fell behind in the facility race which made his job harder ( Iowa's fault ).... I honestly wish it could have worked out. I think Steve wanted to be here at the begining... it is too bad but good for him... he learned on our dollar and now has the support from a University. Expensive lesson don't you think?
