Alabama and SEC

Different level. Has been for much of the past decade. Will be even more for the rest of this decade and decades to come.

It all goes in cycles. Always has and always will.

I'm not sure there has ever been a dominance like the SEC's recent success. It's not just 1 or 2 teams either. You've had NC's out of LSU, Bama and Auburn recently, and in many of those years, the runner up was likely a fellow SEC team.

With the population shift to the south and southeast, I'm not sure you'll ever see dominance out of another conference like you're seeing with the SEC. You'll have an occasional team that can hang with them, such as OU, USC, Texas, tOSU, etc, but not a 10 year run, with multiple teams like the SEC.

No B1G school is good enough to play with a team like Bama, their weaknesses become strengths. Teams like Vandy, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi State, and Georgia are beatable.

It's true. However, the "you're a football player first and a student second (if at all)" mentality that runs thick in the SEC is something I find very hard to stomach.

But, I'll admit that it's not likely to change anytime soon unless the NCAA actually forces a shift of focus back to the academic requirement of being a student athlete.

Looks like we can make a list of factors that make a team dominant:
1. Buying players
2. Talent pool (population shifts)
3. Not-student athletes

Let me add:
4. Coaching talent

Coaches can influence the X's and O's, but they can also do a lot about the first three. There are ways to win, and there are way$ to win.

Sour grapes and our conference is the one with 2 teams in eligible for bowls so we aren't as high and mighty as we wish we were. And the SEC passed a rule this year eliminating over signing. So please stop using that excuse.

We need to get better players and better coaches and stop pressing our noses up to the big shot window. You don't like them...beat them!

It is fun to listen to B10 fans make fun of the SEC in terms of morality. Our 2 flagship programs recently committed NCAA violations and lied about it.

Another enabled a child predator to roam free on its campus and football facilities.

For those of you thinking the SEC pays players... So does every other major conference team. Take your head out of the sand. We are talking about the most corrupt sport in this country.

"passed a rule this year" being the operative phrase.

It's not unreasonable to believe that the practice of dumping your least productive players year-to-year in favor of fresh talent is an advantage. When that rule starts to have an impact 3 years from now we'll know whether that theory holds any water or not.

The SEC as a whole isn't so dominate. It's just that the top 2, maybe 3, teams have been better than any team in the other conferences.

Ohio State will get back in the conversation with Meyer there now. Texas will get back in the conversation. Alabama is rolling right now - but nothing lasts forever - see Florida after Meyer's departure. Saban will see greener pastures again.

Agree completely.
