He seems really pissed off about the offensive woes. I certainly can't blame the poor kid. I'm confident he regrets coming back for his senior year.

He's one of Iowas most explosive offensive weapons in decades and this coaching staff can't figure out how to get him the ball in space. Too bad he didn't go to Wisconsin -- we'd be talking about him and the Heisman right now.

The problem is, Kirk thinks getting him the ball in space is a "trick play" and you only use trick plays once or twice per game.

AW should not be happy. The proof is there that the OLine for whatever reason is not run blocking well so get AW in space by lining him up wider. We know that opponents are filling the box and crowding the LOS because it makes the Iowa offense cringe to have to pass.

Yet Nate would have been over 60% with Fant catching that last pass with plenty of yards and a better yards per attempt and catch than Thorson. So start passing the ball, start motioning and lining up AW out wide, if the opponent tries to take away AW then have your overload options on the other side of the field.

Go to two and three tight ends once in awhile with a big back in the backfield but throw the ball more often than not to the TEs, etc off play action and have Wadley and the big back as your safety valve type release receiver.

I hate the "injuries are just an excuse because everyone has them" mantra. If everyone had the exact same injuries to their important players, it would make sense. But that's far from the case.

He knows he cant remotely say whats on his mind without punishment. It could be construed as an abusive environment.

Is team unity about a team concept where an under talented team comes together to do greater work as a whole or is it to protect the coach? Might be a fine line.

He seemed more like a player who feels trapped and betrayed than frustrated.

The kid has to begin to think of his future rather than being a battering ram. I think the choice is hard on him.

He may, but he hasn't exactly set the world on fire this year either. You can be unhappy about playcalling and also think that AW hasn't performed up to expectations this year.

Running him into a 9 man front is not what Wadley is built for.
Also, we are getting killed in our zone blocking. Teams are firing extra players through that like a hot knife through butter.
Wadley is not a battering ram. He is a quick elusive guy. But he needs room to do things, and there isnt any. And our coaching staff will not adapt to get him any.

If he came out last year he is probably a 3rd or 4th rd. pick. Right now, he’s probably a 3rd. or 4th rd. pick. He really didn’t gain anything from that standpoint by coming back. It would have helped his draft status if could have mastered how to be a good ko returner.

Maybe I have selective memory in my old age so somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Northwestern played their safeties and LBs as close to the LOS as anybody against us all game long. They were daring us to go downfield and we only did like 3 or 4 times. That wasn't going to cut it and doesn't give Wadley any room to operate. I've yet to see them put Brandon Smith in jump ball position out there. The guy is as big and athletic of a guy as we've got and he runs crossing routes and short comebackers? Throw some of those down the field 50 50 balls that so many other teams do. He can out muscle/jump corners and win some of those. Get good at throwing the back shoulder type of throws outside. Not to mention using the TEs up the seams more. There's just so many more things we can be doing to get the safeties out of the box to give Wadley a shot.

Wadley is the only reason we have won games this year. Yes Stanley did well against ISU with the passing, but Wadley took a 5 yard crossing pass and turned it into a 45 yard TD score.

Teams have stacked the box and we refuse to adapt....again and again.

You are not mistaken. I was thinking the same thing watching yesterday that NW had all 11 guys within 6-8 yards of the LOS. I couldn't believe BOTH their safeties were that close. They were just daring us to go over the top. We did try, and actually connected.....but they knew our WR weren't fast enough to out run the dbs.

It's just crazy how poorly designed our scheme is

And Wadley and butler caught passes and got good yardage against wyoming in the first game so I thought that was how they were going to use AW.

He can be so dynamic in the open.

Part of the problem is our talent level. Stanley is not going to connect consistently on passes over 10 yards, let alone beat anyone over the top, nor are our receivers going to get separation, or beat anyone over the top. The talent and athleticism is just not there, period. We have got to get some talent at receiver and a qb that can consistently beat people with passes greater than 10 yards. We do not have that now, nor is it going to change anytime soon. We have one playmaker, Wadley. Thats it, and he is no Saquon Barkley, that will just take over a game. We are also playing with a qb this year that is a statue, and cannot run to save his life. Pretty easy to defend one player, no matter what we try and run on offense. Couple that with a staff that plays like it is 1985, and its pretty easy to see why we suck so bad.
