Akrum Wadley and the AAF

I thought I saw a tweet in the last couple of weeks that Akrum Wadley was about to sign a contract to play in Canada this year. But I just saw that Akrum is listed on the final roster of the Atlanta Legend of the new football league that begins play this weekend, the Alliance of American Football (AAF).

Jake Duzey was earlier on the Birningham Iron roster but he's no longer listed.

There are lots of players on the rosters from Ohio St, Michigan, Nebraska and other big schools but only one Hawkeye on all 8 teams.

I hope this is Akrum's springboard to the NFL.
Mr. Akrum needs 15lbs. Of hard muscle via Doyle. Then he shows rest of FB World what we know! Yo Mr. Akrum..

The game time was shortened by a lot of things. Very short commercials and short timeouts. Some commercials ran on split screen while game was progressing. Also, no commercial breaks after every change of possession. They have video review, but they were very short in duration. I would love to see this trend to all broadcast games.

The Orlando team lists Bob Sanders as the Defensive Coordinator under Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier. Is that our Bob Sanders? If so, I didn't know he got into coaching.

Nope I believe it's a different Bob Sanders that coached with Spurrier during his stint at Florida in the 90s. That said I do think Iowa's Bob Sanders did get into coaching or putting on camps at the HS level. Not sure if he still is.

I look at a guy like Edelman...and he's just a nightmare in the slot for opposing teams. He's 5'10" 195 and runs a 4.5 forty. Can you imagine Wadley in that type of roll in the right offense. There is no way you can guard him in space. If he shows that with Atlanta in the AAF...hopefully someone gives him a chance in the NFL.

Wadley was designed for the CFL from the moment he picked up a football.

With the bigger field, the blocking rules, three downs instead of four, and the huge importance put on slot receivers, there's no better prototypical player for a CFL offense than Akrum Wadley. The day he got cut from the NFL he should have been getting his work visa started.

This isn't an original thought but he reminds me of Ronnie Harmon. And I'm fully prepared to ignore the inevitable reply that Ronnie was much larger. Which he wasn't. Certainly not enough to explain RH spending a decade in the league and AW never playing in it.

Harmon had about 30 lbs on Wadley, and looked the part too. Wadley is only about 170, meaning he was probably around 160 or so coming to Iowa, as we used to fudge players' heights and weights more. The NFL was also WAY different when Harmon entered the league compared to today.

I agree Wadley hasn't gotten enough of a shot, but it's not hard to see why. It'd be very tough for him to sustain the constant workload an NFL RB takes, and it's kind of being proven by his inability to stay healthy for the AAF.
