a 60 yard discus throw is pretty darn impressive.

Shows alot about his explosive power. My best was around 145' and I can't imagine adding another 50' + to that. I am very excited to see how AJ develops. He has the potential to be a difference maker

7 feet farther than Wirfs. If he was an Iowa kid it would have been a state record. However the All time record is 207 in Iowa. Not sure I understand why there is a difference between state record and all-time record here in Iowa.

Usually, "state" records are for state meets and/or meets that take place in the state. "All-time" usually means the performance took place at an "invitational" which includes out-of-state participants. In addition, meets like Junior Olympics, Olympic Trials, etc., count in "all-time", but not "state". records.

If he is good enough--and wants to do it badly enough--he'll find the time.

That's awesome. In '94 I qualified for state with a best of 151' at the 1A level, which was solid at the time. AJ cleared that by 30'...wow. I've heard he's rhrown over 190' before. I assume he'll throw at Iowa, as that's elite throwing. I tried throwing in college, the bigger, heavier discus was just too much difference for me, but I was only 6'3" 215....took about 1 meet to realize it was time to switch to javelin...lol. AJ is just a beast.

This just blows my mind. When I was a little feller I once threw 99' 3" in 7th grade and I thought I was the sh*t.
197'11"?? With a much bigger discus? That is just insane. The guy is a manchild. What a career he's got ahead of himself!
