Agree to Disagree in regards Brian Ferentz

If he wants to be a head football coach, he needs to go to a smaller program as a head coach and get some experience before being a head coach in a big time conference? I mean, you talk about cutting corners or cutting in line, he does not deserve the OC position let alone being the head coach at Iowa say in a few years from now. He is having everything handed to him on a silver platter.

I do agree that he needs some HC experience at a smaller school. Totally different deal being a HC as opposed to coordinator.

Well you might be right about that. He's shown that he's learning on the job in this league as an OC. Maybe the program would be better off if he were the OLine coach. I don't know who Kirk would have as OC in that scenario.

To is credit, Brian has brought some freshness and a bit more aggressive approach relative to the past. But there is the tendency, after a nice play to revert right back to the zone play...

I am NOT anti Ferentz (or Brian Ferentz). I hope they both succeed, at Iowa! But the notion that we don't need anything better is crazy and does not align with the principles that have earned Iowa a strong reputation in the football hierarchy (NFL). I view big time college FB programs like corporations. I'm confused why we're overpaying our CEO, seemingly not enforcing checks/balances to drive better results, and allowing him to groom his under-performing son as future CEO...

This is not how successful companies do business.

I don't want it to end badly for Kirk. He's been an excellent steward for this program. This year has stunk - so much to play for and so few results when it matters. If this continues - big expectations, mid-level results, it won't end well. I really hope it doesn't happen. My bet is that if this would have been a big year this year, followed by a big year next year, he might have called it a career. This forces another 2-3 years out of him. That's my guess.

Thing is outside of Brian would KF with his reputation of keeping the offense under wraps really be able to attract an up and coming OC even from FCS?

We have a really good OC on staff already. Unfortunately Kirk has him coaching the offensive line (which he has never coached before).

Brian makes more as an O-Coordinator at Iowa than most small school head coaches. The biggest benefit for IA promoting from within means all coaches stay. If a new coach comes in, it's likely there will be a 90% staff turnover, which is not Iowa like.

Greg Davis was horrible and in his five years we only had one losing big ten season . That happened to be his first season. If we don’t sweep Illinois and Nebraska Brian Ferentz will have two losing conference seasons in as many . Something to ponder.

It seems like the trend in college and the pros for head football coaches to be hired from the OC or DC spots. I realize that there have been plenty of mid level head coaches that then get hired to bigger programs. But as has been pointed out, BFmakes more money as offensive coordinator at Iowa than he would as HC at a small or MAC school. I know that many would disagree with BF being the successor to Kirk but I think we already started down this path when he was promoted to OC. I think it's clearly nepotism and Barta should be immediately fired if BF becomes the next head coach.
