Don't even know what a play store pop-up is? However, I've noticed that some of the pop-up ads reflect other websites I have open or searches I have made. It is funny how often and for how long I get ads for hotels for trips that I have already taken.

If you aren't using an ad blocker, you're internetting wrong.

I do use blockers and am quite computer savvy but on some days its quite ridiculous. Most days nothing at all.

I use AdBlock on Chrome for desktop use, and 1Blocker on iOS devices and I never see an ad. Ever.
It used to be bad on an iPhone, but either the website or 1Blocker's rules have been updated to the point where I see none. I can't speak for Android phones.
Page load times alone should be enough that a person nails down the permissions on his or her content blocker. HN is lighting fast without ads.

Pop ups are horrible on iPhone on this site. It takes me to the spinning wheel to tell me how I'm going to win an iPhone. I use "never ads" from App Store. You turn it on through settings, safari, content blocker. Only problem is it sometimes prevents you from clicking on a link so you may have to turn it off and on depending on the website you are visiting.
