Active FBS Head Coaches with 5+ AP Top finishes 10's since 2002

And we still cant recruit skilled position guys worth a damn, especially receivers. If anything the Hawkeyes have a harder time recruiting them now than in 2002.

Ferentz and his resume are quirky when it comes to ranked finishes.

No top 5 finishes

5 times ranked from 7th to 9th

Only 1 time finished ranked from 11th to 25th.

So the best way to make Ferentz look good is to compare how many top 10 finishes each coach has. A list of top 5 or top 25th finishes would not look so good.

Not trying to diminish his accomplishments, it just shows how you can pick out criteria that makes Ferentz look good.

^Yeah, kind of like picking a nice round 14 season period to take the numbers from. I'll grant you 5 top 10's in 14 years is pretty good; but it would be nice to take the next step.

Fry only had two top ten finishes. Both times at #10. I just picked a criteria that doesn't make Fry look very good. Plus, Hayden never had an undefeated conference season. Ferentz has two.

Coach Ferentz being on the list doesn't suprise me one bit. Just imagine what Ferentz could do with a roster like Bama has. IMO he is one of the better coaches in the college game or NFL.

That's impressive. I went back to 2002 and looked up by Team total top 10s. Iowa's total of 5 top 10s in this period is second only to Ohio State in the B1G. Here is a list of B1G schools plus some other top tier programs. Some great trivia for those Wiscy, Nebraska, MSU, Michigan and ND fans!

B1G Final AP Top 10s since 2002
OSU - 9
Iowa - 5
MSU - 3
Mich - 3
PSU - 3
Wisc - 2
NE - 0
NW - 0

Other Notables:
Alabama - 9
Oklahoma - 8
USC - 8
LSU - 6
Georgia - 6
Oregon - 5
Auburn - 4
Florida - 4
Texas - 4
Stanford - 4
Florida State - 2
Notre Dame - 2
Miami - 2
Mizzou - 2
Clemson - 2
Virginia Tech - 2
OK State - 1
Arkansas - 1

Some of you guys will do or say anything to take Ferentz down
a notch in order to prove... well... who the hell knows what you're
trying to prove?

So... by your impeccable logic it would be better to have 8 finishes from 15-25.

OK... sure...

Yeah, the Top 10 finishes are great, I've just always wanted a little more consistency, meaning being Top 25 (or better) a little more often. Our up years have been pretty hit & miss, but KF has certainly done a nice job overall.
