Acie Earl Thinks...

I respect Acie for not trying to be an expert, but just giving his two cents in SUPPORT of the program regardless. I am one who thinks we need a change, but Acie is a class guy, and I am going to guess that he learned a lot of that from Mr. Davis.

A little interesting. I am just tired of everyone with a connection to the program (i.e., former players) of beating around the bush-tip toeing careful as it were around the issue. The first one to come out and say what he really means without worrying about how it sounds to everyone, is probably the one to lead the search for a new coach.

The last two days have proven that there is still a passionate fan base for Iowa BB-now it's time for someone with connections to show some passion and love for Iowa BB and get something done.

AC did make a good comment though-that how you get there isn't that important. We just need to win. Winning will put butts back in seats, and as long as the next HC isn't a complete a-hole (ala Stevie boy), things will settle down, fans will come back, and CHA will rock again. Getting someone like Pearl would excite the fan base IMMEDIATELY, and I believe he would win soon at Iowa. There are plenty of coaches who can get it done here, though.

While I respect his opinion and think he knows much more about bball than I do, Davis was ushered out for the in state kids as much as anything else. Raef LaFrentz ring a bell anyone? Iirc Iowa was never in the hunt for Collison or Heinrich only ISU had a shot at them. I could be wrong. I think he handled the rest of the interview very well.

From what I remember, I thought Collison was thinking of going to Iowa, and Hinrich to ISU until both schools made coaching changes, and they both ended up at KU instead.

Correct, 1977, Bowlsby made NC's decision EASY...The Hawks were in the running until TD was a dead man walking

You are correct, and Spud is completely clueless. Collison was a strong Iowa lean when they pulled the rug on Davis. He was a fixture at Iowa games during his sophomore and junior seasons. Iowa wasn't even recruiting Heinrich because we didn't have an opening for a PG. You can say ISU lost Henrich due to their coaching change, and the same of Iowa with respect to Collison.

It's one thing to have a poorly thought out opinion, but when you state things as facts that aren't within an area code of the truth, you look like an idiot.

I find it revealing that in the interview Acie always refers to TL in the past tense.

Acie handled that interview with class and I appreciate his opinion. I have no clue what Spud was talking about or why Phays is mad no former players have thrown anyone under the bus, but I love that former players are being contacted...it's not like we've seen a ton of the past greats courtside lately. It's good to hear from them even in this low point in Iowa history.

well sorry I did say I could be wrong, I was 17 at the time and playing sports of my own. But LaFrentz was the first big fish to leave. So I am not completely clueless now am I? Sorry to have offended you so personally lol.

Correct, LaFrentz is the big fish that got away...rumor has it Iowa only signed one of my all-time favorite Hawks, because they thought it would sway Raef to be a Hawk...it didn't...

You obviously dont know Acie (big Ace snake Don) very well.

I know him enough to know that classy would be one of the last words I woud use to describe him.

Ok, let's say you and him are bff's and you know him so well that you think he is not a classy guy whatsoever... maybe it is because you think he is ugly who knows???

that does NOT change the fact that he handled that interview with class regarding the current situation of the Iowa program. He could easily say damaging things to the University, but he did not. He basically stated he will be supportive of the program regardless of what happens.

I agree that he handled the interview well. Talk to most who know him in the I area and they probably share my remarks. nm

And that is fine... I definitely was not talking about him as a person necessarily. Just commenting on the way he handled the interview. We wrote a song about him in 6th grade about his big butt slowing him down on the court.
