Those comments from Jon are badges of honor for you.
I think Penn State, WI, and NE will have something to say about a perfect season. I'm not definitely saying those three teams will be the losses, but 9-3 seems like the ceiling this fall.
Someone has to get credit for getting an Iowa squad over 200 rushing yards. Have we run this well at any point since 2009?I hereby rescind any faith I ever showed in Brian Ferentz.
No you're completely missing my point. I'll always bleed black and gold, but at the same time lets be realists. How do we recruit top level WR's we all want when (a) we've struggled recently at the QB position (b) our TE's see more targets then our receivers do (c) NIL has gotten us to the point where other programs are going to be looking to steal any WR's that commit and show potential because there's other programs willing to pay and give them more targets. So, you are saying if you had the chance to improve Iowa talent you would not do so? I think that's time to jump ship because that is precisely opposite of a fan's behavior. You may have been an Iowa fan at some point, but you clearly are no longer an Iowa fan. Perhaps a more objective football analyst but not someone that supports Iowa in an important way.

Feel free to question my fandom all you'd like, but I'd be willing to bet there's more than a few who can attest to my bleeding black and gold and wanting nothing more than this team to be successful. "Perhaps a more objective football analyst but not someone that supports Iowa in an important way" what does that even mean that I have to be completely ignorant of what's going on in addition to reality to be a fan of this program. Sorry to disappoint you and I have nothing against you whatsoever, but that's as clueless a statement as I've read on here.
IF my hypothetical son (have 3 all love Iowa but don't play FB) bled black and gold as I did and wanted to be a Hawkeye his entire life then I'd absolutely tell him to follow that dream. But if he's not as big a fan as I am or simply cares more about catching passes and running routes as opposed to the name on the jersey I'm going to encourage him to do what he feels is right. That said, if he's a TE then fan or not of Iowa I'm pushing him that direction because he's going to get opportunities. Here is what I meant. You presented a hypothetical situation and defined its parameters. One of those parameters was your hypothetical son was an outstanding receiver recruit. You said you would either not let him attend Iowa or would discourage an Iowa commit. Assuming the kid was a good as you described his very presence would improve Iowa's passing game. But you would steer him elsewhere thereby hurting Iowa by depriving the team of his talent. Thus, given the binary choice of help or hurt Iowa football you chose hurt Iowa.
Look at it like this. You've got this buddy. Been friends since HS but some of his behavior has become annoying as you get older. Well, one day you just run over him with a super cab pickup. Wouldn't you say that somewhere along the way you discovered you really didn't like the guy and decided to harm him. Safe to say somewhere along the line you stopped thinking of him as a friend.
If you were serious about your son, and frankly I don't think you were-you'd send him to Iowa, but if you were serious when the choice was forced-you chose hurt Iowa football. Just a splash of water to remind everyone that the negativity is becoming very destructive for even the people who post it.
A bunch of idiots look at this offense and conclude that because it only scored 13 points that it sucks. That is wrong. I'm not going to make a bold prediction about the future, but this offense reminds me a lot of the offenses back in the early 2000's under the guidance of Ken O'Keefe. They look a bit shaky in September, but by October they are trucking.
Ferentz going deep on 3rd and short was huge, that is gonna be on tape all year and will pay big dividends. The line is still a work in progress but is making some holes in the run game that we haven't seen for years. The pass blocking is steadily improving. We missed on two pass plays that could have put us in the 30's on the scoreboard. If we don't have any key injuries, I'm hard pressed to find more than two losses on this schedule with 12-0 being a real possibility. I believe this team is going to gel and be really good.
One thing that is under-rated is finding that guy that score TD's once he breaks into the open. Mark Weisman was good at picking up those tough 1-5 yards you need but did not score a lot of break away TD's. Akrum Wadley, on the other hand, probably is the greatest RB Iowa has ever had at scoring TD's once he had the ball more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Iowa needs to look for more like Akrum Wadley.OL has not been good since 2020, and that has been the root of many problems. But if you watch these highlights (most of which are from the BF as OC era), you will see that OL is not the only thing missing.

There are dudes in those videos making guys miss, running away from guys, and just generally making plays. Outside of our TEs, our skill positions have not done this since 2020.
You might not be old enough to remember Ronnie Harmon, Mike Sanders and even Rick Bayless. If any of those three got by the traffic they were not going to be caught from behind. Bayless came out of nowhere due to injuries and rushed for like 1100 yards. Fast. One thing that is under-rated is finding that guy that score TD's once he breaks into the open. One could say Charlie Jones was another one of those guys that just had a way of finding a way to score TD's. Too bad he scored most of his TDs at Purdue.
By the way, did you notice Tyrone Tracy is now playing RB for Purdue and has already scored 3 TDs this season.
