Aaron White Needs More Touches

Seriously? The only way to improve your shooting percentage is to shoot in games? He's got all year round to work on developing a more consistent jumper. As for Oglesby, he shot 37% as a freshman before having a terrible year last year. White has been very consistent for 2+ years. He struggles from the outside.

And to reiterate, I'm not just looking at his current percentage, which is, as you said, 23%. He's a CAREER 25% shooter from behind the arc. He's got a rather strong track record of not hitting the long ball, much strong than JO.

Well, if he doesn't shoot the 3 in games, I can GUARANTEE you his percentage won't go up. Won't go down either. I hope you agree with that. He could be stroking the threes in practice for all we know. AW is a JUNIOR so running out of time. So he's gonna put it off until next year? I'm sure he's been working on the outside shot since he got on campus. I'm just saying he's averaging ONE ATTEMPT per game! I'd like to see at two attempts per game so we get more data points.

You gotta put your toe in the water a little more often. If you miss a couple wide open threes, sure, pack it in for the night. Doesn't help if he improves in PRACTICE because we know that's not necessarily going to translate to games. Yes, the only way to improve IN GAMES is to shoot the shot IN GAMES.

He had 61 and 66 attempts in his first two years. Maybe Fran has seen enough and told him to limit his attempts or he just doesn't have the confidence to even try it anymore. That's quite a drop off since he's on pace for about 30 this year. It sure would be a great weapon for him but maybe not meant to be.

1 - We aren't 16-5 without White.

2 - He can't force the guards to feed him in the post.

3 - I really don't understand this thread at all.

Very good point. People act like it's a crime for White to be efficient. He doesn't shoot the three because he isn't a good shooter, he doesn't take many shots- officially, because he draws contact and gets fouled. He might only have four shots in a game, but if he gets to the line 8 times, it means he has been aggressive.

RE 3: The point was that some think he needs more touches to get more shots. That's a wrong perception. He gets enough touches already.

RE 2: But you're right, he doesn't get the ball down low enough. Part of that is because he isn't down on the block enough. Part of that is poor guard position/not looking to get the ball inside.

RE 1: True obviously. It can be debated that in the seven big games the Hawks have played [2-5] (Xav, Vill, ISU, Wis, OSU, Mich, MSU) White has been effective in just 3 of them (ISU, OSU, Mich). Marble has been for six of the seven (scoring 19 or more in them; the Mich game was avg).

The games that both of these guys were effective are ISU and OSU: a should've won and a did win on the road.

I don't consider these to be ineffective numbers...points & rebounds.

Xavier - 10 & 6
Wisconsin - 12 & 8
Michigan State - 10 & 7

By this logic, I could help the team. Who cares if I go two years without hitting more than 27% in a season? Just keep chucking.

White's biggest strength is that he stays within himself. Until his shot improves (which, believe it or not, he can find out outside of games), he's smart to avoid chucking up 3's every chance he gets.

Your conclusion may be right. However,

In the seven big games White has 58 FG and 37 FT attempts.

W - Xavier ..... 7 fg ... 5 ft ... 10 pts
L - Villanova ... 3 fg ... 4 ft ... 6 pts
L - Iowa St .... 15 fg .. 2 ft ... 25 pts
L - Wisconsin .. 5 fg ... 8 ft ... 12 pts
W - Ohio St .... 12 fg .. 2 ft ... 19 pts
L - Michigan ... 12 fg ... 8 ft .. 17 pts
L - Mich St ..... 4 fg .... 8 ft .. 10 pts

So it would seem to indicate Iowa does better when White gets more FG attempts rather than FT attempts. And Iowa would do better if White would be aggressive in big games like Marble is.

Marble has 112 FG and 60 FT attempts in those games.

Maybe. However, 34, 31, and 37 minutes in those games is not effective enough to win them either.
They are not game changers stats needed from the second best player on the team. Marble needs help from him. The 1-2 record in those games indicates that.

Believe me, I'm not ragging on White, but Marble needs game changer support.
