A stat for tonight's game

KenPom has a stat called Adjusted Defensive Efficiency, which is the number of points a team gives up per 100 possessions. The 4 highest ranked teams we've played in this category so far this year have been Texas (10th), UNC (11th), Syracuse (16th), and UNI (27th). Those have been our 4 lowest offensive outputs of the season, averaging 56 points in those 4 games, basically because those teams defend and we didn't/don't create offense well when we can't get space, etc.

Michigan State is ranked 9th in this category. This stat scares me. Some will argue that this stat means nothing, but it will, at the very least, serve as a measuring stick of progress, if any, our offense has made since that early stretch of games.

Win or lose I don't see Iowa scoring much tonight. They struggle to score in general anyway. Throw in MSU's physical style and intensity and its going to make it even tougher for Iowa.

Iowa's best chance is to have a ref crew that calls the game tight and they win on the FT line.

I definitely agree with "serve as a measuring stick of progress."

I know the main answer is "Devyn Marble" but it blows my mind that Iowa averaged 81 points a game last year through a full season and as of today, 2 games into the big ten, they only average 70. It doesnt seem like Iowa looks to run the floor as much as they used to

In what manner? Turnovers, or just regular change of possessions? Or, both? That's an interesting stat, how many possessions would a team average each game?

Just curious...Where do the Hawks rank?

I'm not exactly sure how possessions are measured, but the best average is 83 points per 100 possessions, so I'm guessing it's total possessions for the season divided by points allowed. For example, Iowa averages 67 possessions per game. Top is 78 possessions per game.
