A something I want to respond to

normally I let this stuff go by the wayside, as when you are in the line of work I am in and you give opinions for a living, people are going to feel as though they know you and your motives and that will result in some blowback...that's fine and I understand that.

However, I have seen a few threads around the web the last day or so that are making some assumptions that I just want to clarify.

Many of you have seen me writing some columns for Iowa's OSR since football season. I am compensated for that. Some are saying elsewhere that I had better be careful otherwise Iowa will 'fire me'.

They are free to do what they want. I have submitted some articles this winter that were not published, which I knew they had the right to do. No big deal. I also emailed them this week to let them know that I will no longer be submitting any articles related to Iowa basketball under the current coaching regime, because it would be disingenuous of me to do so..because in order for those items to get published, I would have to write about things in a way that I truly don't feel or believe. I also said that if they felt they wanted to cut ties on this project, that I would understand and there would be no hard feelings on my end.

I enjoy writing the articles for them, as I get to talk more about Hawkeye sports with close to 100,000 Iowa fans. I appreciate that they asked me to do it and hope we can keep doing this in the future. But if it comes down to having to write a certain way to keep doing it, I am not comfortable doing that..but let me say they have not asked me to write anything a certain way, or say this, or say that. Not at all. I respect the people that I work with on this project at Iowa, and because of that, I felt like i needed to be up front with them...and also with you.

That show great integrity Jon. Good for you.

That podcast was right on. I really appreciate the honesty and candor that came from it.

Official Sports Report...a daily email from Iowa on things related to Hawkeye athletics...its free for anyone that wants to receive it.

Part of the decision has to do with me, and just being true to yourself, but another part of it has to do with being fair to Iowa, and not having someone submitting items to them on a sport that he doesn't believe in right now given the leadership in place. I don't want to bring embarrassment to them.

I think you meant to say "waist side"...

Carry on.

Is OSR Phil Haddy's department? Jon, you are doing a good job. Keep up the good work. I think you try to be objective, which is something that a lot of writers have no interest in. Fans are fanatics, but writers should be objective. Of course, there are a lot of "homers" out there, and other writers are "contrarians" or "haters," who are in no way objective, and just as bad as the "homers."

You mean you are not a shill,Jon?...good for you. It would be tempting to just toe the company line on Iowa bb, because you are doing something many hawk fans would love to be doing...talking and writing about Iowa athletics...glad you were upfront with them.

I get the OSR every morning and for the most part enjoy reading it, sometimes not much in but other times very interesting. Orange Bowl coverage was very good.
I had noticed you hadn't written any articles in a while and really thought nothing of it. I appreciate you sharing that with us. I think your candor (Sp?) and honesty is part of the reason we all enjoy trolling this website daily.

I am hopeful they will still want me to be a part of it, I dont want to paint anything different there. But if not, I have no problem with that decision.

And I have always looked for ways to be positive, and will in the future. It's just that worst three year run in program history has left me without any positives.
