Do we know roughly how much they are spending?
No clue. There are lots of websites that speculate on this sort of things, but these NIL contracts are not generally available to the public. It just depends on how much info the agent, player or collective let leak out.

In fairness, Fran had a pretty good class coming in next year and a lot of vets coming back. So, perhaps the money available for MBB was/is not as anemic as some on this board have stated. My sense is that we are middle of the pack for the conference, which is probably 3-4 million, but that is really uneducated guesswork. Whatever it costs, I like what I am seeing come in the door. A Drake nucleus that is supplemented with a bunch of winners who outgrew their current gigs. Seems like a good recipe.

I also like how tall our guards are.
The JBo-Joe Toussaint-Brock Harding days seem to be over... For now. Ben did try to land that 5'10 kid but struck out. I kinda like having the taller longer combo guards these days. Unless your shorty is just a total stand out stud having middle of the road guys that are on the small side just stunt your team.. (see what I did there?)

Aren't all of our guards now in the 6'4"-6"6" range?

I thought Marble was the best PG of the FM era. I also thought Josh Dix was a very effective PG and that might have even been his best position. As my coach used to say, you cannot coach a kid to be taller.

Conner might have been the best PG of the Fran era. Late in close games the ball wasn’t in Jbo or Perks’ hands…it was in Connors’.

As far as Dix goes, couldn’t disagree more. He is so much better playing off the ball. He is such an efficient scorer/shooter…you just wanted him hunting shots.

Connor was the best leader Fran ever had and you want guys like that with the ball in their hands in the clutch. That said, Connor's greatest gift was feeding Garza and he did that from the wing better than any college player I have seen in the modern era. Feeding the post is a lost art in modern basketball.

Dix is an underrated passer and has good floor vision. He hunted plenty of shots with the ball in his hand. My point is that tall point guards can be effective, but yes, guys like that are usually good at the wing too.

I think that both Connor and Patrick were overrated coming in. Four Star??? In what ways? May have been wisdom for the youngest son to not play in the Big Ten.

Maybe Patrick will have a good senior year. I wish them all three and their father the best moving forward. I believe Fran, Connor, and Patrick did the best that they could. Too bad things were so cold in March.

Also, I read that there was a couple of negative comments made toward Fran's wife, but I have no idea what all that was about.

That's what was weird about the Lick era, even guys who were doing well left.

You know people initially were excited about Lick when he came in. The thought process evolved around what an upgrade Iowa would be over the small program that Butler came from.

If Lick could do well at Butler, surely he would do gang busters at a bigger program like Iowa. Surely he would get even better recruits.

Lick had trouble recruiting B1Gs and his offense was boring to watch. Lick was the precursor to Fran. We were so happy to have someone “Fran” that wouldn’t put you to sleep watching the game.

I think Lick and.Brian should stick to something more their speed, like watching paint dry.

To your point though about How some of Lickliters best players left his team’s. I can’t help but wonder if it had more to do with Lick’s personality more than anything else?

I don’t think personality will be a factor.with Ben. Ben appears to be well liked by players and coaches.

I still scratch my head over the low turnouts at the Iowa Men’s basketball games. Is the economy effecting the way people spend their money in Iowa? I mean there’s a big gap between going to a Lickliter coached basketball game and a Fran coached basketball team. Lick and Fran seem to be polar opposites. One couldn’t coach offense and the other struggled with defense.

I expect to see a more moderate type of basketball under Ben. A team with balanced scoring and defense. Will that turn out to be more effective? The truth is none of us know at this point. Expectation’s were also high when Alford came to Iowa City. One of the biggest gripes about Alford was in ineptitude in March. Hummm, why does that sound familiar? Also with Steve people didn’t seem to care too much for his personality.

As far as personality goes I have to give that award to Mr. Davis Davis. Tom had a likable personality.

I guess this fall we will see what Ben is going to be about.

One question I'd be curious to know the answer to is what's the overlap between folks that are womens season ticket holders and the mens? You can't tell me that every single paying customer that helps sell out the womens wouldn't go to the mens games or didn't used to. I'm not saying they all do or even that most of em do. But if you told me 25-45% of em did I'd believe that.

If the men could get those folks to start coming back that in and of itself would be huge. But the thing is that would cost just that much more time and $ both and who's got the time to go to 3-4 games a week let alone the $? Hate to turn it into an either or thing but besides the rich retired folks who realistically even could do that?

Are you one of these people that think that Barta should have recognized that Brad Stevens was the Theo Epstein of basketball?

Do you think Barta should have recognized what Danny Ainge saw, and everyone else missed, outside of the Butler program?
