A lack of team speed and team defense was the difference tonight

Soft in the middle, slow defending on the perimeter. Dribble Drive teams will carve us up like Thanksgiving Turkey if we can't defend better than that.

I thought the 2-3 zone was effective, but Woodbury started not rebounding very well out of it and VT quickened the pace in transition to get the lead back-up.

Work in progress.

Nothing to add... spot on

team speed is not the issue its more like player were in poor position
again 4-22 from 3 coupled with VT GOING 27-30 from the FT LINE to Iowa's 13-18

I thought Woodbury took up great space in the zone and Iowa got a lot of rebounds from him doing so. Remember when Iowa had Hansen and he took up space and protected the rim...he averaged just over 4 rpg, but he had a bigger impact than that allowing Brunner to average just under 10 rpg.

Team speed didn't hurt Iowa, playing man to man primarily did. I do think there were a few poor calls, but Iowa players have to put themselves in better defensive position as well. Iowa didn't protect the rim like they have been, but I don't think team speed is the issue. When Iowa went smaller, they played better, but Woodbury has to stay on the floor, he makes a huge difference.

I thought Woodbury played well in stretches, but from my viewpoint he clearly had a problem rebounding in the man to man and in the 2-3 zone in the 2nd half. He was initially doing well in the 2-3, but got outworked on 2 straight defense positions right when we were down 3 or so. The VT started attacking in transition and got the lead back up.

Defensively, I think we are rather slow in the wing positions. Guards and small forwards are getting by our wing defenders on the first dribble.

With all the talk of Iowa's defense, did anyone see how may terrible shots were taken from 3-ball land...most with more than 20 seconds on the clock...long rebounds lead to transition and no shot at setting up defense.

One other thing. Hawks relied too much on the 3 ball. Not nearly good enough from there tonight.
