A great year

This has been a great year of football from our Iowa Hawkeyes. It certainly wasn't without drama. While my criticisms of certain aspects of the team still stands. This has been a memorable year. The losses were certainly disappointing.

But if you look at were this team is now compared to what we thought was going to happen after the North Dakota State game,
none of us expected this team to finish 8-4. I am sure that I am not going to far out on a limb to contend that if Iowa hadn't suffered a beat down in Happy Valley, Iowa wouldn't have turned around and beat Michigan. And after squeaking past Michigan Iowa delivered two beat downs. One we expected and one we dreamed of. And in a year were Iowa beats Iowa State, Nebraska and Michigan. it's a good year.

No not great but very good. You can't say great with a NDSU loss.Michigan was one of our best wins ever.

That's a matter of opinion. Or semantics. I will take a NDSU loss and wins over Iowa State, Nebraska and Michigan. Given where we thought the team was after the NDSU loss to where it ended up. Great.

except for 2002, 2004, 2009 and 2015, we are always inconsistent. I blame the coaches, am tired of losing to teams like W. Michigan, N. Dakota St and crappy ISU teams, then they will knock off a top 10 team and suddenly we need to forgive this staff and head coach for one or two big wins in one season. It's gotten really old. Plus, we haven't won the Big 10 in football in over 12 years and a bowl game victory since December 2010.

It's kind of like the 1996 season, losing to Tulsa, but being 9-3 with a bowl win, a win at Happy Valley and a domination of Wisconsin and some freshman phenom named Ron Dayne. Or even three years ago, beating Michigan and Nebraska to peak at the end of the year, but having lost to Northern Illinois (granted coming off a BCS game and with a Heisman contender at QB) in the season opener. Probably got a shot in a bowl a bit above our actual talent against LSU, though we kept it close. If we play USC, Colorado, or Washington State like I'm seeing projected, I don't think we can slow them down enough to win, but never know which team shows up more motivated in the smaller bowls.

No not a great year at 8-4. That's 4 losses 2 of which came at the hands of an FCS opponent and 6-6 NW. In the other loss we got drilled and gave up 600 yards to PSU. That's not a great season by any means and the fact that the OP would post this really cheapens our brand.

It was a very strong finish after starting 5-4 but we have to win the bowl to cap this as a strong or satisfying season. Lose the bowl and we finish with 5 losses... another consecutive bowl loss... hardly great.

Nice try though.

Cyclones call 8 wins a great year.

Hawkeyes call last year a great year.

A solid year, above average. Not a great year, but a great finish(so far). If we win the bowl game, i would elevate the year to Good.

Most years I would consider 8 wins a Good year, expectations were a little higher this year and the NDSU/NW loses were bad. This year, it's gonna take 9 wins with a bowl win to be "Good".

Get to Good Hawks, get to Good.

This year is a great year like getting a C+ is getting great grades.

You beat Wisconsin, and it is a great year - back in the ship at 9 - 3. You beat NDSU it goes to a good year, a B grade, but nothing really changes. You beat NW instead of NDSU it is a very good year with a tie for first, but no ship.

The fact is, Iowa was probably a Vandenberg away from being 10 - 2 this year, where a few first downs in key places determined the course of the year. Makes a strong argument for who the MVP really was. Sad to see him go.

Any year Iowa beats down Neckbraska 40-10 is a great year for us Hawks in Nebbyland. Kinda ruined their season. If we win against them next year that will be 3 in a row and 4 out of 6 since they came to the Big 10. Trust me,, the fusker fans are pissed about this one.

1st quarter: C+(meh against Miami, beat down of ISU, disappointment against NDSU)

2nd quarter: C (2 ugly road wins and another disappointing loss)

3rd quarter: D+ (ok road win, boring loss, and embarrassing blowout)

4th quarter: A+ (top 5 win, shutout, and top 25 blowout win)

Overall C+with chance to raise the grade in a bowl game to a B

With a bowl victory I think it would be okay to say great finish to a disappointing season. I think a bowl victory here is very much needed to validate the extension/raise.

All it would have taken to make this a great year would have been a win over Wisconsin (assuming the rest of the schedule played out the same way). That would make us West Champs. That probably would have met expectations. Beating tOSU would have surpassed expectations imo due to the simple fact that they truly are the #2 team in the country and we would be B1G champs with a 10-3 record and a chance for redemption in the Rose Bowl.

The Clowns win 8 games? In one year? Really? That's a clown's wet dream!

JB i do like your points in your sig. There have been comparisons to Fry and KF on here earlier in the season. Some truly believe KF is just as good as Fry, if not better. I have 5 points I would like to make now that I was too lazy to make in those threads:

-HF had Iowa ranked #1 for several weeks (under KF #3 is our highest)
-HF completely OWNED ISU
-HF won the games he was supposed to win. KF loses a few he's supposed to win and maybe gets a win or two he shouldn't have
-HF coaches to win; KF coaches not to lose
-HF doesn't make excuses

Probably a few others but I think most all of us know HF>KF and always will be. The End.
