A cautionary note...

For those of you calling for Lickliter's head already:

The same guy who hired Lickliter and had it down to Lickliter and Kevin Stallings as the finalists is the same guy who would choose the successor.

I would love to get inside Barta's head, hack through all the company line BS he has to spew right now, and find out what he really thinks about the state of the program and the quality of this hire. I really can't imagine that anyone he might have hired could have had us in worse shape than we're in right now.

Bruce Pearl should leave Tennessee.
He won't get paid more than Summit there and he just suspended 4 of his players.

Jump ship, Bruce! ;)

I don't mind Lick. I actually really liked the way the Hawks were playing at the end of last year. However, the state of the basketball program is beyond bad, and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

The guard and small forward positions have potential, but Iowa has no inside presence.

It's Lick's team and eventually he has to own the problems of the current team (regardless of the bad luck). I'd rather start over again sooner than later.

I have a quick question, Stickup.

Has Lick ever NOT owned up to the problems? I think you need to be clear that unless I am mistaken there are people in forums lie this that try to explain away things. But I don't believe Lick has ever made excuses, has he? Maybe he has and I am missing something. However, people need to be aware that there is a difference between others making excuses for the guy and him doing it himself.

I am missing your point, i think. Bad is bad, no? Is it okay because he takes blame for it being so bad?

Well, the we're young and we play the toughest schedule in the nation excuses seem to be something he repeats a lot.

Re: I have a quick question, Stickup.

We have the toughest schedule in the nation?
No but Lick keeps bringing up how tough the scedule is. I think Spank could verify this but I believe the SOS is the toughest in the Big Ten, at least until lately when Purdue played WV and Illinois played Gonz.

Does it matter if he owes up to his problems or not? As long as he's trying to improve himself that's all that matters. Why would you publicly say you suck at your job, most people like to keep theirs?

At the end his record will speak for itself. He doesn't have to "own up" to his problems in public.

Iowa still holds the Big Ten's toughest schedule (through last night).
I wish we could use that excuse as to why Iowa is losing, but that's not the case.

All I am trying to say is that Lick is responsible for this team and things look really bad right now. I don't see things getting better. I wish they would, but how long do we let this continue?

Thanks, Spank. And I'm afraid that Lick does keep bringing up this stat for one of the big reasons we've lost so many games.
