A Big Ten Record Within Reach for Kirk Ferentz

Most bowl wins by a Big Ten coach. Joe Paterno leads with 10, I believe Kirk is second with 9 wins. He needs two more to be #1.

I realize bowl wins mean a little less, based on the number of bowls, but Kirk's wins by and large have been in higher tier bowl games:

1. Alamo Bowl (2001)
2. Outback Bowl over ranked Florida (2003)
3. Cap One Bowl over ranked LSU (2004)
4. Outback Bowl over S. Carolina (2008)
5. Orange Bowl over ranked Ga. Tech (2009)
6. Insight Bowl over ranked Mizzou (2010)
7. Pinstripe Bowl over BC (2017)
8. Outback Bowl over ranked Miss. St. (2018)
9. Holiday Bowl over ranked USC (2019)

6 of the 9 wins have been over ranked teams.

I hope he gets the record.

Say what you want about Joe Paterno, but there is no debating that the guy had an awesome record coaching in bowls.

If you also include all the games before PSU joined the Big Ten, Paterno compiled more bowl wins, 24, and appearances, 37, than any other coach in college football history, with a bowl record of 24–12–1 (.662). Paterno also had a record of 13–4–0 in "major" bowls. Paterno is one of only two coaches in history to have competed in and won all five major bowls with the other being Bob Stoops at Oklahoma

I suppose it'd be a nice record but with 82 teams now making bowls it more reflects that Kirk is getting old.

I agree this type of record is a bit watered in the new era, but it would be cool for KF to have this record, and its also one of those records that he may keep for a while given that its highly unusual for one coach these days to stay in one conference for the 20+ year career it takes to collect that many bowl wins.
