... during their careers go bankrupt after their careers. just heard that on Colin Cowherd. that's just crazy

Well, when you come out of college and you probably never worked it's easy to see how these players could assume the well will never run dry. But when you start buying multimillion dollar mansions and Italian sports cars the money leaves your checking account pretty quickly.

For a lot of them, it is external business deals that get them sideways.

They seem to think that because they make a lot of money as a player, they can make a lot of money as a businessman/investor. Not sure why they would think there would be overlapping talents in those two very different arenas.

I know you sourced Cowherd, but I'm gonna need something more reputable.

Also, is this personal bankruptcy or just owning a stake in a business that goes belly-up?

Sports Illustrated article stating that 78% of players 5 years after retirement are either divorced or bankrupt.

Gold diggers, ponzi schemes, hanger on(s), etc. it is a lot to navigate through even if you come from a strong two parent household. I get making mistakes they are human, it is the repetitive mistakes I do not understand. How many times do you need to be suckered out your money? How many kids out of wedlock does it take before you understand condoms work?

Just because you don't like the guy's opinions, doesn't mean he's inaccurate. Like him or not, his facts are usually dead on.

Tim Dwight sounds like he could be in financial trouble. I bet the rest of the Hawks over 15mil come out ahead.

Most of these guys need a really good, honest guardian angel advisor and most dont have them.

They need someone to make them put most of their dough in a directed trust or whatever you call it that has rules for how much you can take out. These guys should never go broke.

Sorry greed buying mansions etc.

Cowherd wasnt the source. it was a former NFL players union rep and former NFL player. the thought Cowherd would throw something like that out there on a whim is laffy taffy.

yup. Just because you got a 10 million dollar signing bonus doesn't mean you need to go buy a 5 million dollar house.

I don't even have a take on his opinions. He's an entertainer, not a newsman or researcher. I work in a statistics job, so I tend not to trust stats from "pop" sources without corroboration. If it's accurate fine, and in that case it will be easy to back up.

Link?

Yeah, only an idiot would show any skepticism whatsoever to a radio talking head and some unnamed NFL people. Nicely done.

It should be a shocking thing but it makes sense. Normal people could live off the interest alone from 15 mill for the rest of their lives. It really doesn't matter what they make they'll spend more than that. I have a family member that's a pro athlete and making big bucks. I told him before he graduated from HS and I've been preaching to him ever since to save half of what he makes and live off the rest. So whenever he stops he'll have a pot of money laying there at least and hopefully be smart enough to have it last him longer then a couple years.

lol he wasn't some unnamed source. it was a face to face on the record interview with a former player and former nflpa union rep. I just didn't catch the name.

actually never mind. it didn't happen, its not real, none of this is real.

Let me understand something, if there was a link with this information you would take it as gospel? In other words, if it's on the internet it must be true.

Do you doubt everything you hear unless it's backed up verifiable facts? Conversations with you must be hoot.

You may find this hard to believe, but I've seen reputable magazines and newspapers print inaccurate information. Weird huh, something put down in black and white was wrong or misleading.
