85 points without Jok did not see that one coming

I thought we would win this one by 10. We are so much better at home. But I never expected to do that without Jok. Crazy good effort. If we could play just half that well on the road.... and we will eventually. So much potential in this team! I love it.

Taking absolutely nothing away from Iowa's effort, but man, OSU is flat out sleepwalking these days on defense it seems. Matta have anybody listening to him?

Sometimes taking a player off the table, especially one who demands so many shots, allows others to develop and contribute without the concern of "feeding" the best shooter.

OSU players were lethargic getting back, especially their big men. They look tired.

Kriener is blooming and tasting blood.

Cook with 1 rebound. Work to do there.

Baer always fun to watch.

It looks easy when the three pointers are going in.

Dakish hit the nail on the head when he talked about how free and easy the team played. They all know they need to defer to Jok when he is in the game. That was ok when he was healthy and dominating, but really stunk when he was hurt and suckin'.
They moved the ball very well and shot freely. OSU's lousy "D" made it that much easier. JoBo "an all-time great" was a reach, but it seems like he's the first PG that can hit a long jumper since Jeff Horner. So compared to the last half dozen Iowa PG's he seems special.

Glass is back to being half full. Hope they can have a couple more games without Jok. The kids will all get more confident and they need a healthy Jok to have any chance to make a crazy run in B10 tourney.

Ellingson was huge.

The guys shot well all around. Confidence is huge for a young team, and it showed.

Even Wagner was feeling it, shooting the 17 footer...dial that back big fella. That said, its a game changer if he develops a decent 15 footer.

Just a great game all around.

With Jok out the team not hamstringed with bad D (Jok) and running plays for a guy ailing, not able to put it in the hole. Looked like a different team being unhitched from the burden of carrying a broken player that just keeps playing. Hope this gives the coaches ideas as it gave me:

1. Don't play Jok until 100%
2. Don't play Jok if he's stinking on defense
3. Quit running play after play to Jok. Let the open guy shoot and distribute the ball until you find this guy. Our offense reminded me of GD/Ferentz's offense, way predictable.

Solid defense and guys made shots. Confidence was built.

Need to carry it on the road, get a couple more wins, then get a healthy Jok back, but not revert back to completely relying on him.

Keep rolling Hawks. Next away game is HUGE.

Dakich talks alot but he knows what's he's talking about. It kind of makes you look at Bohannon differently who I really like but have wanted to see play off the ball more if we could bring in a pure point guard. I don't have the stats but I know Jordan has a good assist to turnover ratio and IMO does a great job feeding the post and distributing the ball. Ellingson does this well also but people just concentrate on his shooting. I think point guard looks in good hands but we need some back up as Williams doesn't seem the answer but could help us on the wing if he stays. We can get by with Ellingson or maybe Connnor backing up Bohanon but I still think we need to recruit a point guard if we have anybody transfer. Solidify that position and put that with Moss and what we have in the front court and we have something going forward.

If you'd have told me that one of those teams was going to get blown out last night that's not how I'd have predicted it. Iowa has an offense that is predicated on inside out play with the pass in the half court. Iowa isn't a drive and kick team (due to personel) what they like to do is get the ball in the post and then let the big guy be a decision maker with the ball to either make a move or find a slasher or kick it out. Ellingson was a huge beneficiary to that tonight. He played great. It's so fun to watch a shooter have confidence. I didn't even mind his heat check Kingsbury deep shot he airballed. I think he only missed one other shot then that all night. I wouldn't say Iowa's defense was perfect by any means but the effort was better and plenty good enough against that OSU group. That had to be a long flight home for those guys yikes.

With PJ we would've lost 72-71....;)....Kids played great, hard, and played together as a team.....I'm not sure wtf was going on with OSU...those guys looked like they didn't even wanna be there...great game, kids were having fun

Iowa players seemed interested in their zone defense last night...this is good.

Ellingson seems to be shooting with confidence...this is good.

Kriener is getting good minutes, contributing, unafraid of shooting and playing hard...this is good (bodes well for him not leaving the program)

Baer runs around like a crazy man, but always with a plan and purpose...kind of a Jason Bourne...nothing is random, there is always a goal.

Problem with Jok is...the rest of the team stands around...learning to play without him, and at a higher level, is a good for next year...this season has potential, but odds are planning for next year will be the best of goals. You learn by playing. You get better shooting by shooting. Not much of this happens when Jok shoots, a lot...

Some creative coaching and matchups last night as well...good job coaches.

This was a very promising game for Iowa. Just a couple days ago I was saying how bad Iowa' guards were going to be post Jok.......then they go and make me look stupid by playing great vs. OSU's

Lyle (5*) Williams (4*) Jackson (3*) combine for 11-30 for 32 Points

Bohannon (3*) Ellingson (3*) and Moss (3*) combine for 12-27 for 35 points

During that ugly three game run Jok was playing hurt and actually giving us negative value. His D was non-existent and his teammates still deferred to him on offense even though he didn't have the health to be his usual dominant self. I would say keep resting him for at least the next two game as both are very winnable even without him.

Yep. That is why I kept saying during the Illinois game to get Pete and Jordan off the court. They were hurting the team playing injured/sick, and that is on Fran to recognize that and get them out.

What you just pointed out highlights how Fran's coaching can seem so maddening. He followed that up with a night where Dakich couldn't stop raving about how well Fran and the staff prepared the team. We had a great game plan at Purdue too. Fran makes adjustments but I wish we would get more consistency.

I didn't see that one either!
