6/23 PTL Stats

And hes on a team with Woodbury and Jok so he is at best the 3rd scoring option on that team. All the other Iowa guys on scholly are either the 1st or 2nd options on their team.

Oh, and how does this work? I thought I read that only two Iowa teammates can be on a team. Or is it only two on the floor at the same time?

I think we need some mins played with these stats to make more sense. I only caught the last 8 mins of game time of Meyer's game and he wasn't playing a whole lot, if I had to guess prob only 2 or 3 of those 8 did he play.

PTL stats mean nothing

the competition this year is particularly weak

skill observations matter -- if gabe has a better drop step, is clemmons' release better, etc..

it's an eyeball test league

(so unless you're there in north liberty, there aren't any real conclusions to draw)

I'm concerned cause he's only scoring 9 pts in the prime time league after having already spent a season redshirting. PTL is playground ball with very little defense. I'm concerned for him, not the team. The team doesn't need him this coming season and I dont see him having much impact given what he is doing so far.
Yes, I know all the cliches. "Don't give up on him already" "Quit bashing him!" blah blah blah.
Just saying, 9 pts in PTL is pretty weak.

Let's think this one out for a minute folks. Woodbury puts up 32 shots(Jok puts up a bunch of shots also) How does he get 32 shots? Meyer is a 3 point shooter, is 6'10", is a good passer....now how does Woodbury get 32 shots? I was not at the game, but I am going to guess that Meyer was feeding him the ball a lot. Role player, team player, smart player...it will be interesting to see what he brings to the team this year and next year. Meyer could be an important piece of the puzzle if he shoots the ball consistently from the 3 pt. line, and continues his passing and rebounding skills, and he runs the floor well.

Woodbury and Jok had 32 shots combined last nite, 16 each.

I'm not worried about Meyer for two reasons:
  1. He's not going to get a lot of playing time this year .. and maybe not next yeat either. There are too many talented 4/5 players for him to see significant time. (Woody, GO at the 5 and McCabe, Basabe, White, and Uthoff at the 4)
  2. Gabe Olesani. What did he do his freshman and sophomore seasons? What did he do during his first year or two in the PTL? Not a lot, if I remember correctly. Now look at him. If you had told me after his fresh/soph year that GO was going to be an integral part of the program I'm not sure I would have believed you. Will the same happen to Meyer? We'll have to wait and see.

We just need to be patient with Meyer and let him develop. He also needs to be patient with Iowa and realize that he may be a junior before he sees significant playing time.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

I like Meyer to get significant PT when he becomes strong enough to be absolutely solid as a post defender, adding to his ability to take that post player outside with his shot. That could be by his jr/sr years.

While I largely agree with this, Gabe is/was a totally different player than Meyer. The athletic ability has always been there for Gabe, but he was so incredibly raw as a player because of his inexperience playing the game--not just at the college level, but in general. What we're seeing now is a very athletically gifted player having things fall into place mentally. Meyer isn't in that same boat.
