Hard to believe in just two days it will be 17 years since that tragic night in Iowa City. A night many of us will never forget. RIP #40.

still remember when i came downstairs the day after and my dad looked at me and shook his head and i could see the sadness in his eyes. He looked at me and said, "something really sad happened last night." One of the sadest memories i have from my childhood. RIP Chris, you are greatly missed.

My son is named Christopher Michael in his honor. I was in 8th grade at the time, and I wore #40 in basketball and remember writing CMS on my shoes for the rest of the season. He was really a hero for someone coming from southern Iowa, he made me think if I just worked hard there was nothing I couldn't do.

I remember the night that Chris died. KCRG started the 10:00 P.M. news by saying a Hawk player had been killed and then went to a commercial without telling who it was. Sleazy reporting.

I had just graduated from Iowa and move to St. Louis. I remember just a blurb on the local news about it. Had to call my girlfriend, that was an Iowa student to get the story. He was a great role model and is missed. Also have the memory of the MSU game after his death. Acie Earl with the 40 shaved in his head. The Hawks played a great game on the road.......then there was the first home game against Michigan. What an emotional victory for the Hawks!!

That MSU game was the last time Iowa has won in East Lansing.
And that UM game was amazing, I wish I could have been there for it... Hawks took down the Fab Five. It was insane.

RIP, Chris.

I saw Chris play as a HS freshman for Mormon Trail before he transferred to Indianola. My sister was a suitemate of his sister's in college. I was in law school at IU when he passed. What a promissing player and, more importantly, what a fine young man.

i remember waking up the next day on my birthday, no less, to hear that he had died. couldnt believe that he had died.

Heard about the accident as I was getting on a plane in Omaha to head for a vacation in Arizona.

Must admit it brought a tear to my eye and does so to this day.

Great Hawkeye and more importantly a GREAT PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIP - CMS

The thing I have always remembered about Chris' death, was how the team rallied around each other and how the fans rallied around the team...I had forgotten how good that team was until a few years ago when Dick Vitale made mention that "that Iowa team had a real shot at the Final 4, if not for the tragic death of Chris Street"...loved Acie Earl's "40" tribute in his hair.

Rest In Peace Chris...Forever 40!

I was 4 about to turn 5 in a month. Don't remember Chris playing and only have stories about him. Wish I could have been able to see him play. RIP CMS. You are missed to this day and will always be with the Hawkeye family.

I have the Call from Zabel on my Ipod after the Michigan game and I get teary eyed. His parents getting the gameball, with the players going over to them.

I was living in California as I was in the Marine Corps at the time. I was watching ESPN Kentucky v Arkansas or Kentucky v Alabama game at the time when they broke in and made the announcement. I sat there in complete shock. My buddy being a huge Kentucky fan couldn't even say a word.

Trust me I will never forget that night.

I was sitting and watching the local news in Sioux City with my parents that night, and they announced what had happened, and we couldn't believe it. One of the saddest nights of my life. Just awful.

Chris Street was one of the great Hawkeye players and will never be forgotten. One of my favorite Hawkeyes without a doubt.

Street wasn't blessed with a lot of athleticism (heard he couldn't even dunk when he came to Iowa - but that changed), but his pure heart and work ethic made him arguably the best player on the team. He was definitely the team's heart and soul. Tenacious rebounder, good FT shooter (set the school record for most consecutive makes), and could hit the 3. He always played with everything he had, and the crowd always fed on his energy. An instant crowd favorite. Most of us weren't lucky enough to know him personally, but Chris sounded like a really great person on top of it all from everything I've read.

I was pretty young when it happened, the thing that sticks outmost in my mind is watching my dads reaction at the end of the msu game, I was wondering if there is any sites with game or at least highlights of the game, I would like to watch it again if possible as i don't remeber much of it.
