That Kinnick experience is one of a kind. From article:

https://www.si.com/college/boise-st...k-tradon-bessinger-decommits-from-boise-state

Tradon Bessinger is part of the class of 2026 and is currently rated as a four-star recruit, per the 247Sports Composite ratings. A product of Davis High School and hailing from Kaysville, Utah, Bessinger is ranked as the No. 6 player from Utah, the No. 24 quarterback, and the No. 308 player overall in the class.

Here’s a few highlights from his HS reel:

I read where he is 6'5", 220 lbs so he has Gronowski size. I like that, hopefully he has some speed.

Keysville, UT is on Interstate 15, north of Salt Lake, in the area of Weber St U. He has an offer from BYU so one might assume he's Mormon, not that it really matters.

Sounds like it would be a good get to me if we can bring him in!

I saw a pic of he and him mom on the sidelines Saturday, he seemed kin d of thin but tall.

He was loyal to Boise State for quite a while. BYU came sniffing around and he said he wouldn’t be going back on his commitment. Guess while sinking the Gophers boat he saw something he liked. In the article it mentions that Minnesota and Iowa both come out with offers before the visit.

I think he's got some other visits lined up too so I wouldn't get too excited just yet. But he'd be a great get if we can get him. I'm just afraid a kid like that will want to be in an O that throws it around the yard more then we do. But who knows he liked us well enough to visit.

I have said this before many times, if I was a kid like this I would take every official I could and take some unofficials as well. When else in life do you get flown for free for a weekend at a cool venue and get your ass kissed, wined and dined, and begged to join an organization? Not often. Take the trips, kid!

Yep. My son is nowhere near as elite an athlete as a D1 football player, but he got a bunch of really good offers from Midwest schools to run track and XC. At first he didn't want to go on any visits because he said he'd feel bad if he decided not to go there. I told him I like the way you think about it, but that's college recruiting. Coaches know for every 10 kids they offer they might get 2-3 and you're not hurting their feelings if you pass. I told him go check it out, get some nice meals, hang out for a couple days, and get some free hoodies. He earned it putting in all those practice hours. It's no skin off anyone's back.

This kid sounds talented but doesn't seem to fit the mold that Lester is moving toward. If Brown transfers that leaves us with 3 QBs

5'11" 188
6'1" 197
6'1" 218

Not the big pocket passer types. @Zstatman at 6'5" he'd be much taller than Gronowski. He's 6'2"

He has been recruited by other schools before and stayed true. Only after his Kinnick visit did he decide to pull back. Boise State fans are not happy as they lost another QB from same year that decommitted once Oregon came knocking.

Don't you get the impression that Lester can adapt to any QB, he just wants the best playmaker he can find?

As you noted, this year our QB room has a couple Nate Stanleys and a couple Drew Tates. I think Lester will take the most talented guys he can find and sort it out from there.

Yes. That said, you run the offense very differently with a guy who can RPO like MG than you would a Stanley or Petras. Maybe that's why Hecklinski jumped Brown on the depth chart. He fits what Lester is trying to do.

Yeah and I knew less then that about his recruitment so far. All I knew was he'd been a Boise ST commit for awhile. Lester seems to be really good with QBs so far. Although he did lose that Cash Herrera kid to Indiana after he'd been committed to us for awhile. I guess we'll just have to see.

Just looking briefly at the highlights, it doesn't look like he is a Petras/Stanley statue, nor does he have an arm like those guys. Rather, he made some accurate throws on time (good anticipation), and he also made a lot of really accurate off-platform throws when plays went off-script.

He can move a little, but doesn't look like anyone who will scare a college D with his legs. We don't necessarily need that, just someone who can pick up a first down here and there on a scramble.

But who knows, projecting QBs feels like an impossible task.

That only concerns me if they are statues and not very mobile. Obviously Hecklinski can move we just saw a little bit of what he can do last game. I don't think we know much about the others yet. 6'1 218 is that Pat Fitzgeralds kid? That's a well put together kid.

I am nervous about Brown transferring again. I'd like to see them battle it out in spring ball at least to see which one Lester gives the leg up after that. But he might leave before the bowl game with how things are nowadays.

I think he would preferably have that 6’4”- 6’5” 225 range. It’s not that the mold is his specifics, I believe it’s just what we’ve been able to get.
